Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Hi, I just purchased this guitar used and I still can't figure out the model. It's got Gibson on the truss cover, an Epiphone inlay, it's serial number says it was made in Korea in 2000. It does not have a Les Paul signature although it looks like a Les Paul. The serial number is on a plate not stamped. Anyone know how to figure this out? Thanks!

Looks like a LP 100 or something like that.

+1, you can start here and probably figure it out with this info:

Re: Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Yah it does, but there are a few other models it looks like. Weird thing is it doesn't have the LP signature. I'm mostly just worried I bought a fake. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Its common for a lot of the LP100s to not have the Les Paul sig on the headstock. Completely normal. You can see examples of this on the wiki.

OK, I think I'm convinced. Now I'm just mad because I paid too much. Granted the thing is in very good used condition and came with a hard case, but I paid $250, which is what Amazon is selling this for new.

Does it have a bolt-on neck?

Does the one on Amazon come with the case? Might not have been a great deal but still a deal if you want to look at it that way.

Re: Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Well, I got mine new at AUD 450 (AUD 50 higher coz it's a lefty )! No case nor gig bag even (yup, that's how hard it is down here).

Not that bad actually, just really need to change the nut and put in some Grover heads (tuning was pretty bad before that, especially the G, plus I need to re-string in that manner so nut change is a must ). Oiling the frets makes wonders too!

Re: Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Considering it came with a hardshell case you didn't do too badly.

myLeftyPaul

That is one of the prettiest paint jobs on a LP100 that I have ever seen. I saw a new Honeyburst a few weeks ago and lost my mind. Mine, made in 2009 is not so hot. Barely any wood shows through the yellow of the burst and the back is solid red. 2009 was not a good year aesthetically. But, I put stellar PUPs and pots in it and the neck is perfect. I also have a set of grover tuners I am putting on too, so I'll keep her. I love to play it, in the dark

MyLeftyPaul likes this.

Re: Unknown Model - Anyone help?

Thought this was interesting for us LP100 guys. I plucked this from a book called Engineerin the Guitar: Theory and Practice by Richard Mark French.

"The method of connecting the neck to the body can affect sustain (the rate at which volume decreases). Conventional wisdom holds that the neck through body gives the longest sustain and the bolt-on neck gives the shortest. However, experiments by R.M. Mottola [56] suggest that a bolt-on neck offers the longest sustain of the three attachment methods. These results are interesting, but should be corroborated before being accepted as being generally applicable."

The Mottola reference #56 is an article in American Lutherie, volume 91 published in 2008 titled "Sustain and Electric Guitar Neck Type"

Interesting at least.
