What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

Hello all.I am working on a trade with my Yamaha Pacifica for an Epiphone LP Custom SB.The Epiphone has Seymour Dunkan jazz which he will keep them (they didnt fit my style anyways) so i am looking for EMG most likely the JH set.The question is do i need the long shaft pots or the regular for the Epiphone?Thank you.

I don't know about the shaft length but you will need 25K pots for active EMG's and not the standard 500K used with passive pickups.

Re: What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

I know that. The pots are included in the set as long with all the electronics. There are 2 types of EMG pots though the regular and the long shaft. As i know Gibson LPs requires the long shaft version of the pots but i dont know about the Epiphones

you need the short shaft pots. the long shaft pots are for Gibson LP guitars which have a thicker cap than Epiphones

Re: What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

The last time I installed EMG's in an Epi I'm almost certain I used the short shaft pots.

Aren't the long shaft pots just for Gibsons with the "Norlinesque" steel plate?

Re: What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

Most Epi's can use short shaft pots, some of the newer ones like my Standard 1959 are a little thicker and long shaft pots are needed. Fact is long shaft pots work in them all. Long shaft pots also allow you to use the inner nut to set the depth so you get just the right clearance for the knobs, also makes the use of indicator washers that much easier.

Re: What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

I currently have EMG's in my Epi LP and had them previously in my Epi SG (G400) and I have never used long shaft pots. Unless you buy the Zakk set or other type 'set' you will get both long and short, but if you buy the pickups individually you usually only get a short shaft pot (maybe it's changed but that's the way I bought mine years ago.)

The short shafts work just fine with Epi LP's.

Nope, the JH and KFK sets both come with just short-shaft, but it should be fine for you.

If you end up needing long shafts, check eBay as a lot of guys buy the ZW set and don't end up using them.

Re: What EMG pots for Epiphone LP Custom?

Hey just to close this thread i actually installed the 81/60 and the regular pots barely fits especially the neck tone and vol which i had to remove the interior nut.So the regular do fits but the long shaft is preferable. Thanks for the help everyone

I know you have them in but I've heard they will exchange them for no cost.

Pics?
