Ehh, I wouldn't say so, but its cutting it close. There are a lot of extras that comes with it(belt, slash book, his signature, etc)and it has Alnico IIs, which are the best pups IMO, and it is a goldtop, which has like fifty coats of paint, but its worth it also IMO, but I think it could be cut down maybe 100 dollars then it would be even value.

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

well, the way i look at it is if you bought a LP custom they are what $800 now? plus another $200 for the pickups and $80 for the case. thats $1080 plus all the case candy it comes with, the strap, there were a bag of slash picks in there, etc. so i guess $1000 is an ok price.
and yes, i know its a standard not a custom but isnt this model pretty much built like a custom with the mahogony top?

That logic works if you think Epi Customs are worth 800. I am happy with my G-400 Thanks. Only about 1/3 the price, with the same pickups and equipment pretty much.

Like Sin said. Epi Customs are not all of a sudden well priced at $800. Just because the Slash is no longer $400 more than a Custom doesn't make it a good deal. $1000 for a Chinese guitar? Please.

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

My local GC can't even move the tobacco bursts they have in stock, I don't see this one flying out the doors at $1000 a pop.

I saw that someone bought a Gibson goldtop for $2199, which is cheaper than the tobacco Gibbys sold for, so shouldn't the Epi goldtops be cheaper also?

Oh, and what extras does the goldtop Epi come with?

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

They've got the Epi on display in Nashville but not for sale yet. I went ahead and told my buddy to hold me one of the Gibsons though.
Weird about the pick guard, my Epi Slash came with one but my Gibson didn't. Also, the Epi has a 50s neck and the Gibby has a 60s.

Sounds like the Epi was better than the Gibson in almost everyway. The only difference where the Gibby is better is the finish...

the tabacco burst one was hanging right above this GT on the wall. lol.

are there differnt types of gold tops? i compared the finish on the Slash to the Gibson GT classic on the wall and it was completely different. colorwise and sparkly-wise if thats a word.

I've said it two or three times, if I would have been blind folded, I would have thought my Epi Slash was my Gibson Slash from the get go. I'm a Gibson guy and will always buy the Gibson first because of resale "collect ability" but that Epi Slash is a monster guitar, it's built like a brick shithouse.

Not really. You do realize the Epi has a long neck tenon? Apparently it came with a pickgaurd, and I'm not too sure about the pickups, but I thought they were the same on both models. Anyways you could change those out if you wanted. Same with pots and caps.

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

so the epi slash's have long neck tenons? i didnt realize that. these might not be bad guitars to pick up for like $800 used then. the GT did look like it was made very nice. i did look at it for a while and played it unplugged. however i didnt see a differnce in feel or playablility from my other 2 epis. i noticed the back had a one piece bottom. as opposed to my 94 epi where you can see all 3 pieces of wood. i thought at first it was a one piece body until i looked at the side and saw the seems. then i looked at a honeyburst standard on the wall and it had the same one piece back. so i guess thats how they all are now

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

Epiphone is really going on about this being a special build with
high quality Mahogany all over, neck included...and the Gold Top supposedly mimicking the painstaking 1952 Gold Top paint process.
I received an e-mail as I do monthly from Epiphone explaining the glorious craftmanship and quality that goes into each Slash Gold Top, and to finish it off there is a 12 point inspection and set-up by Epiphone (Gibson) TN. when they arrive.
It's supposed to be a 'step in the right direction'.
I'm sorta gassing for this one.
I just may have to go for it.

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

the Gibson verson was there today $2200, on the floor next to the Epi. the neck is thinner, the gold top it more solid and less sparkle. the action was way lower. you could really tell the difference in the 2. i didnt plug either of them in though.

Yep! If the GT's quality and features be towards the same as the Elitist..why not? If Epiphone is right about the new "quality" control that goes into each of these guitars, I'd think it's barely worth the price tag. I hope they are taking the new step and direction like they claim.

Re: Slash GT at GC for $999

Well, I got one coming for $800 not too shabby for this price for these features. Will see how it goes.

$800 - $150 SD PUs
$650 - $100 Case and strap and picks and all other extras
$550 - Same price as the Epi Std plaintop but with unchambered body, long neck tenon, better woods, custom shop, most likely has a higher resell value than the Epi Std plaintop

I'm getting the Goldtop instead. The GT is more iconic of Slash to me than the Tobacco Burst.

By the way I see someone have 4 GT for sale on ebay for $885, free shipping.
