My New, new, new Joe Bonamassa Les Paul

Hopefully its a 'Third time is the charm' situation.

It took three tries before I got one shipped to me without any damage but this one they went all out on the packaging (Pictures attached).

You guys already wished me a HNGD on the first one.

Will be spending the rest of the day checking it out before I can relax and enjoy this beauty.

Bob

Here's all the packing. That box is big enough to hold me! Took forever to get out of the box but at least no broken pieces this time.

I took it down to 13th Street Guitar Repair in Huntington Beach, CA and having them set it up and install Gotoh bridge and tailpiece. They had the Gotoh at 1/2 price (installed) for used pair that I couldn't tell wasn't new.

They'll do a fret job on it for a discount since I'm doing the setup and bought the bridge. Should I spend the extra $55? Will I notice a difference since I'm a real newbie, still learning my first chords?

It sounds like a great deal so long as the guy doing the work knows exactly what he is doing.

And yes, if done right, the guitar should be easier to play.

Glad you finally got a guitar that was in great shape! Those Bonamassa Epis look like they are awesome players! I hope you get years of enjoyment out of that one.

For that price, if the guy knows what he's doing, then yes absolutely have it done now. Learning to play on a well set up guitar takes a lot of potential frustration out of it.

Re: My New, new, new Joe Bonamassa Les Paul

Just picked up the JB LP from 13th Street Guitar repair in Huntington Beach. They had a like new Gotoh bridge/tailpiece they sold me for 1/2 price. So hardware/installation and complete setup (except for fretwork which would have been an additional $55 as a package) on my new JB LP came to $140. Looks great, sounds better than stock Epi hardware, sounds amazing and plays great.

The Gotoh stuff is a really good upgrade for Epi's - I've got the same bridge on my Epi LP Special.

yes, and historically accurate, which is the only reason I tolerate it. I'm NOT a fan of pink. Would have preferred even the old wine colored interior to pale pink. Makes me think Pepto Bismol every time I open the lid.

Re: My New, new, new Joe Bonamassa Les Paul

Congrats on your new Epi JB! As of about 1 and a half hours ago I just bought a new JB myself! I went to Dietze Music in Omaha to ask about some other business today, and I also wanted to see if they had any Gibby Custom Classics in stock. Well they didn't have any Gibby CCs in stock but I gave the Epi JB a spin for grins and giggles and needless to say I came away very, very, impressed. For the money, and with the store tossing 20 % off today, it's a no brainer. I'm afraid I won't be needing the Gibson CC for a work horse Les Paul now. Sorry to hijack the thread, but these are amazing guitars when you find a good one, which I fortunately just did.

Re: My New, new, new Joe Bonamassa Les Paul

Great looking guitar, I was in Sam Ash the other day and started looking at one didn't play it but it looked very well put together and I'm sure it sounds great. If I ever scrape enough money together I might get one, gotta love gold tops.

Congrats.

Re: My New, new, new Joe Bonamassa Les Paul

Spent most of today with my new Goldie (named after the character in 'Sin City' since this isn't the JB LP I started out with but her sister)

Playing through the Fender G-Dec 3 Thirty, which I'm still in the learning curve with it 5 months after buying it, which is understandable since it does so much.

I'm a newb to electric guitars, I have an old Epi FT-145 (Japanese) I bought back in the '70s, but never learned to play chords with it, just picking a string at a time. Anyway, I have to say I wish I'd bought an Epi made Les Paul back then cause its true what they say, electrics are easier to play. As long as I'm wishing... I wish I had bought a Gibson Les Paul instead of that old acoustic Epi.
