Which do you think?
Hi all, so I'm looking to get a new guitar for my birthday this month, and I can't decide which to get. I already have a les paul, SG, and a strat, butI'm looking for a different sound I don't have yet. My main 4 choices now are (in no particular order)...
Epiphone DOT Epiphone ES-339 Epiphone G-400 Custom Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty So which do you think will give me the most different unique sound from my others? BTW, I need it to be able to handle some gain (od/dist.) in case I wanted to gig with it. I play most styles, but mainly blues and hard rock. Thanks

Re: Which do you think?
If you're wanting variety, the Dot or the ES-339 would be my suggestions.

If you want a real change, get a casino.

Re: Which do you think?
Thanks, so if you all think the semi-hollow body, which would you recommend?
BTW Mud, I'm not a huge fan of P-90's, though I did take the Casino into consideration.

Re: Which do you think?
Go for the semi-hollow if you're looking for a different sound. Your sign says you already got LP, SG, and ST so an ES will give you new sound. ES-339 Pro (smaller body), 339 Ultra (electronics), the Lennon Inspired Casino (coz I also love to have one, the Revolution), Lucille (people loves to have one), or the Dot (or 335 Dot Royale Ltd - Polar White?).

Re: Which do you think?
But think of it this way?
I want a different sound, do I get humbucker A, humbucker B, humbucker C, or humbucker D? What's similar in a way to a LP,...but has single coils? A Telecaster. The fact that I want a Tele myself has nothing whatsoever to do with my biased opinion. Nope,...nothing at all.

Re: Which do you think?
As others have stated, a semi-hollow will give you more versatility. I haven't cared for the workmanship on the new 339s that I have played so, if it were me, I would look for a Dot or a Sheraton.

Re: Which do you think?
My vote is for the ES339PRO the coil splitting Alnico Classic PRO pickups give it serious versatility regarding tone, semi hollows are versatile to start with and the combination of a SlimTaper neck and a body size smaller than a 335 and close to a LP. For me that makes it a no brainer, my only problem is I can't decide between Ebony and Vintage Burst or I wouild have ordered it last week.
I already have an Ebony Gibson LP 60's Tribute w/P90's, Cherry Gibson SG 60's Tribute w/P90's and a Wine Red Epiphone Special II w/490R & 498T humbuckers. So I "need" a semi hollowbody and some more humbuckers. I also plan on purchasing a Gibson Traditional Pro, I would like to get it in Ebony to "match" my LP Tribute. I guess I'm leaning towards the Burst for the ES339, but I haven't seen either model in either colour in my local shop, so I'd have to order sight unseen. |

Re: Which do you think?
Tele.
You have an SG, Strat, LP.... you clearly NEED a Tele. These are the rules. Or, you can get a Gretsch. But... get the Tele. And get a halfway decent one. Like a Baja. If you can't get "different sound" from a Baja with stock pickups, and S1 switching... you'll never be happy no matter what you own. |
