Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
Hello and welcome to MLP. I have the same model and it has all the upgrades it's supposed to have. There's been a bit of a problem here lately with Sam Ash selling what's supposed to be the same model but it has none of the upgrades. It's a regular LP Standard with a gold top. We've been trying to steer people who are looking for this model away from Sam Ash. Where did you buy yours if you wouldn't mind saying?

Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
Bought it a month ago, in a Singapore music shop (Swee Lee Music Company) which I was just passing by, until I saw that they're having a 50% discount on ALL the things inside. So I ended up with this guitar back home.

Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
I was at Sam Ash in New Haven CT this afternoon after reading about this model. Sadly the only 2 they had in stock were the newer version with no Gibby 57/57+ pickups or push/pull pots. Salesperson says they've been like that for a short while now. Even their February Gear Guide lists it with Alnico V p/u's and no mention of push/pull pots. So it's nothing more then a Standard with goldtop now.
If you were able to get one, count your blessings I guess. |

Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
The pics posted by the OP spell it out all the way. Ideally, you need to see and be able to handle the guitar to verify that it has these upgrades. Before pulling any access panels or pups, I would see if the tone controls are push/pull or not. If not, the rest of the upgrades won't be there either.

Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
If it has the push/pull tone controls then it most likely has the other goodies too. Being pre-owned however, you can't be sure that someone along the way has not removed the Gibson 57 Classic pups. I thinking taking a drive to see it first hand is def the best idea. Keep us posted, I hope it works out for you.

Re: 1957 Epiphone Les Paul Standard GT
The JB has a long neck tenon where the 57 GT doesn't. That matters to some and others not so much. The JB has Gibson Burstbuckers 2 & 3 and the GT 57 Classics. I have both and frankly, I'm on the fence as to which pup I like better. The BB's are a brighter sounding pup if you like that characteristic. The JB also comes with a case. The JB does not have 4 conductor leads on it's pups therefore no coil splitting or series/parallel switching. The only other difference I can think of is the finish. The 57 GT has a brighter more sparkly finish than the JB. It could be a tough decision.
