Just when you think you've seen it all!

I came across this early this morning and was beside myself. Why someone would want to take a legit Epi LP Ultra and turn it into a fake Gibson escapes me. Granted the seller is not trying to hide anything but to me this just is not right. Is that wrong thinking? I'd like to hear your thoughts Guys and Gals.

Re: Just when you think you've seen it all!

Well, some people are all caught up in "brand names" and "
the correct addresses". This carries over to the headstock brand name of the guitar a musician plays on stage. The owner of this guitar obviously felt that audiences would think more highly of him if its members thought he was playing a Gibson instead of an Epi. As has been said in posts before, The audience for the most part doesn't give a damn what brand of gear a player has. They care only about how he sounds. I wouldn't have spent my money or wasted my time on that mod.

Re: Just when you think you've seen it all!

Im a car guy and I heard this and its true for just about anything. Anybody who cares enough that your car is an SS, Type R, Si etc etc is going to know when its a fake.

Whats the point? Anybody who cares is going to know what it really is.
Phildog, SJM, NashvilleCat and 2 others like this.

Re: Just when you think you've seen it all!

+1. I'm a car guy too, and know exactly what you mean. Fakes don't pass with experts. And the only time I ever had members of the general audience at a gig show any interest in the guitar I was playing was when I played my 1983 Hondo "Longhorn" (same radical shape as the 50's Danelectro longhorn). When I play a less radically shaped Epi, Gibson, Fender, or Carvin, nobody cares what it is.

Yes, there's a hole there. The bottom screw is just in the TRC and is there just for looks. The top screw is all that holds it on. Crazy!

Re: Just when you think you've seen it all!

That just sucks. It try to keep most of my guitars original. I would only mod if I could not make a guitar sound better that is stock. And I usually can by dialing in the pickups.. set up.. adjust the bridge, height of strings etc. That way you have credibility when you sell one.
