So they arent real PAFs.... but a close knock off that Dimarzio can produce faster and in quick demand. They did this with the last Ace Epi with the Dimarzio "USA" super distortions. The difference was huge!! That was one of the first things I did when I rewired mine!
I noticed that when I read the specs. Dimarzio PAF "Style" leaves some gray area as to what you would be getting. I'd love to test drive one of these to hear how the PAF's will sound but I have a feeling they are going to sell so fast that finding one in a local music store may be tough.

It's just a quirk with me I can't really explain. I've never been able to warm up to the "crowded" look. I don't mind them on a Strat but I don't care for them on a Paul. Maybe it's like Oysters and an acquired taste. I could probably get used to it.

Oh, I see. It's an appearance thing. I thought you didnt like they way they play or a problem with tones.

Looks... for me, I dont think it gets alot better!! (for what it is)

The DP103 is the dimarzio version of a paf. I think you can get sound bites of this pup on their site. I got one here on the bench along with a DP100.

I was gonna install in a Agile AL3100 project, but the alnico 5 pups sound too good and it's just a great axe as she sits. no mods for her

Confidence inspiring ain't it.
Not impressed. They refuse to. Ship overseas, even if I books the courier at my own expense therefore accepting all liability for damage in transit.

Re: New ace confirmed!!

The more I study this the more it intrigues me. 3 piece neck with a volute, hard maple cap with no veneer? Ebony fret board, long neck tenon, MOP inlays, "C" profile neck & quality P/U's. It sounds like one of the best Epi's to come out since the Elitists. At $799 I think I've just overcome by distaste for 3 P/U Gits. I think I gotta have one of these if I can get it through MF or SA.

I called the local dealer, which in my case is Long & McQuade and special ordered one. Had to put a deposit down. They will call me when it comes in and I will finish paying for it.

Re: New ace confirmed!!

Just called MF, they don't have a clue (well, this sales person didn't) about this axe. No inbounds, no info on the axe at all; he thought it was a special order. I'll try again later, hopefully I'll get a sales person who speaks guitar and not a guitarded one.

For some people, the middle pickup gets in the way of their picking style. Rather than change their approach, they simply refrain from using 3 pickup guitars.

I think a 3 pickup SG would be optimal for 3 pickups, especially if it had the large guard, since you should be able to sink the pickup down fairly low, to the point where it is just above the guard. Just a random thought.

Re: New ace confirmed!!

Hello Everyone

hey HACK :Gee the 3 pickup models have been around off and on since the 50's, watch the led zeppelin dvd boxset and you'll see Jimmy Page playing a black beauty with 3 humbuckers and a Bigsby.

but as they say, to each his or her own.

I think it's cool, but I would have to put in a dimarzio super distortion pickup

take care
George

I brought the coupon, but was denied. He said it couldn't be honered on this item. I am going to call the number on the coupon and ask why. I did it once before and got a 150 dollar gift card. It's worth a shot.

Yeah GC always tries to weasel their way out of this. Every guitar I buy is not eligible. I have used it on some equipment but am sick of that.

Re: New ace confirmed!!

I like the 3 piece neck and volute.

I don't care about Ace's name on the thing - or whether it will be "collectible" - it is nice to see an Epiphone that is truly a different model, and not "just another Les Paul" with a different paint scheme...
