Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

Hey everyone,

I'm sorry if this question as been asked before, I couldn't find it that easy. I have and 10 year old ebony Epi LP, made in Korea and now I am interested in changing the pick-ups. The sound that I'm looking for is a nice bluesy one. So all suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

when you say bluesy, are you looking for a warm dark sound, or more of an edgy bright sound? there are a lot of bluesy tones lol

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

I think I mean warm and dark, something like a Dot or Es335 but I don't know if that is possible? I know it is easier just to buy a Dot but I really want that sound on my LP.

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

you could add some .033 caps to darken up what youve already got

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

Have you got a sound sample of that?

I'm looking if I can find and example that sounds like what I've got in my mind.

Edit: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=BIvka3...eature=related

this comes close!

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

Try the GFS Crunchy PAT neck pup. I didn't like the bridge, but the neck pickup is amazing! I use it all the time.

Sound samples?

YouTube - Blues Improv 2

That is relatively clean, for the bluesy stuff

(not trying to plug my videos or anything but that's a sound sample )

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

@Skynyrdpicker: that's not bad but I want a thicker sound.

Extra requierment: the pick-up has to fit in without having to make new holes.

I have Manlius Fat Dianes in my Classic... They may or may not be what your after... heres a clip FAQ, Pics, and Sounds from Manlius Guitar Pickups when you load the page a clip starts playing automatically, you can scroll down and pause it, then look at the different clips offered and play what youd like to hear.

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

I really liked the clips of KevinT's Lord Of The Blues pickup (Guitarforce Pickups).

Creamy tone, with some great sizzle.

The closest thing from GFS is gonna be the Vintage '59, which is not quite as hot as the Fat PAF. Also, the StewMac Golden Age 'buckers would be a good choice. Look for resistance values below 9.0K.

Why not give Will, WB Pickups a call? You do know that they are on sale for MLP members.

No I don't know that! Give him a call is a little bit difficult because I live in Belgium...
Which pick-ups of him would you recommend?

For blues the Vintage Tuned PAF (***) or the Hot *** (also called the ***H).

Very vintage tone.

He'll be in the shop in about 2 hours, so give him a call!

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

Yeah I'm a little on budget. I haven't been playing for long so I don't want to spend to much money on them. That's why I was looking for that Fat Diana sound in GFS, they are a lot cheaper.

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

I've had a night of sleep and listened to all of the samples again but there isn't one that stands out I'm afraid... Everything is too sparkling, I really want a thick, warm and creamy sound.

Re: Pick-ups with very bluesy sound

how much are you looking to spend..??

WB's 67/07 Peter Green set may well tick all your boxes, and his new 57 sets may well do too (if you have any spare body parts..)... Have a search around here or youtube for soundclips although they may well be all out of phase soundclips youll find...

If youre after bluesy sizzle arent the ********s supposed to be good, Ive not tried those yet...??

I would take a look at the SD Pearly Gates. These are going to run you more than $200, but worth a listen.
