Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

O.K. I am new guy here. New to Les Pauls that is. Always dreamed of having one .....Finally got one a few weeks ago from a local music shop. Anyway the one I got was used. The salesman said he rarely gets any Epiphone or Gibson guitars in the store. He s a Fender dealer. I know its true because I have been in there once a week for the last six months. I trust everybody there. A few of them I have known for years. Anyway I went in there the other day and he had 10 Epiphone LP's in there. All brand new. All very beautiful. So I asked him if he was now an Epi dealer. He said no that he had just come into some B-stock guitars. They all look real. Most of them he is charging less than 500.00 for. All of you guys know alot more about this than I do. Can anyone tell me about B-stock Epi's. Are they good quality? Is there even such a thing as a B-stock Epi? Could they be fakes? If they are legit, I would sure love to get a second Les Paul . I have just never heard of a B-stock before. Does that mean it was dropped on the floor in the factory? I appreciate everyones advice here.

Re: Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

could mean anything hair under the finish, scratch or crack somewhere, flawed top etc... Some of hte guys on here have them and I dont think they all know why they're b stock the 'faults' are that monir. If it is a true epi b stock it should have it stamped I think on the back of the headstock.

COuld they be fake - for sure without seeing them anything could be a fake, find out where they got them from.

Re: Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

I have one of said guitars, and don't even know why. I can't see anything that sticks out, except for the used on the back of the headstock.

Re: Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

I picked up a "Used" Epiphone Les Paul Standard a couple years ago...It's one of my favorites. Other than having "USED" stamped into the back of the head stock & a very small nick near the tail piece...it's perfect. It had all the "New" tags, stickers etc but was stamped "used" due to it being a second.

I would have no reservations getting another one.

Re: Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

B stock guitars in general can be a great deal. As noted above, it's usually something extremely minor, like a flawed clearcoat or a chip in the binding. Anything severe, such as a crack in the wood or disfunctional equipment would never make it out the door in the first place.

Yeah you are lucky because you can go look at them. Find one you like, and look it over carefully.

Actually thats not all together true. I know a company out of Nashville buys in bulk from quite a few different guitar companies and epi is one. They buy damaged and sub-par instruments and fix whatever is wrong. And yes that includes cracks and breaks. They then stamp "used" on the headstock and put on a new serial code to keep people from trying to falsify a warranty claim with epiphone.

Re: Epiphone B-Stock Guitars

99% of the B stock have very minor flaws, some you can't even find without really searching.
