Re: Complete EPI custom setup

Nice work and nice thread Roman. A good friend of mine told me a long time ago that you have to give it away to keep it. Apparently you have learned this truth. Thanks for the great thread!

Is the string resting on the plectrum or is there a gap? I can just fit 2 green (.88mm) dunlop picks between my low E and 12th fret. Does that sound overly high to anyone?

The string is resting on the pick.

Overly high is a matter of personal opinion. If it is too high for you............it is.

This shines them up, and you don't have to use polishing compounds or other stuff that will want to get in the pores of the fretboard.

Some guys use a dremel with a small buffing wheel attachment, I like the leather.

That is a hell of a good tip, I've never thought of using cowhide!

So how much would it cost for a setup like that? I might be willing to send my guitar over.

Thats exactly how i set mine lol..

It's not high according to Gibson, but i do keep my treble quiet high for their standards. They recommend 1.1 mm or so and i keep mine at ~1.25 mm. Its all about personal preference and how you play. I cant bend strings at all with a really low action.

Re: Complete EPI custom setup

I think I'm gonna get an Epi, but I think I would have a tech do it, cuz I would NOT be able to do that by myself lol(im thirteen years old). What I noticed while playing one at a store is that the neck is REALLY STICKY, thats about my only gripe. And the action is a little high, so I think i'm gonna have it setup, even though its pretty expensive. I'm so glad I saw this thread, otherwise I wouldn't of thought of sanding the back of the neck. I might attempt to do that myself, well actually I would probably have my dad do it. (so i could blame him if he messed up ) But thanx alot roman.

Re: Complete EPI custom setup

awesome thread Roman.... i go down to l.a. a few times a year, i'd also be curious to know what this kind of setup would cost and how long it takes if i were to bring the epi with me down there. i usually stay a few days to a week... and where abouts in the l.a. area are you?

What should I do when I have no experience and tools for doing that? How much would such a procedure cost (just an realistic price range) when I let it do an luthier?

i hope you are kidding. for one, there is usually a per post character limit on these types of boards. two, the man is well respected in the industry/community, takes the time to take pictures and do this write up for us under NO obligation to do so, and you say it is annoying to look through 4 pages? third, maybe it was just easier to do one section at a time.....

It's less annoying than going out spending the money for a book, or waiting for it to come in the mail.

This is free info, and besides...........it would probably take up 4 pages in a book as well.
