Wow. My new GraphTech nut came in the mail today and DAMN. I didn't think it could make that much of a difference but it does! Props to them

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Pickup covers got here today. Installed them in only a few hours.
But there's a problem. The bridge pickup is extremely quiet now, like the volume pot is on 1 all the time. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm sure it'll be resolved in the future. I'm still waiting on the bridge/tailpiece and toggle switch cap I ordered. Hese it the guitar with the covers installed and the new nut.

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Hey, it's been a while. Sorry about that. The new bridge and tailpiece came 2 days ago and it was a real pain installing them. When I was trying to take out the bushings by using the screw trick where you place a screw into the hole, and screw in the post, The screw went into the wood. I was getting really frustrated so I came up with the idea of a hollow tube and washers to life the thing out. Worked like a charm. After going through all that trouble, I find out that the holes are too big for the new bushings. To resolve this as quickly and easily as possible, I wrapped a reciept around a stud, covered it in poly, and stuck it in the hole. Problem solved. After that, I remembered the ground wire. I tried to get that on with my crappy soldering iron/ soldering iron skills, and nothing. As a result of my laziness, I just left the wire in the bushing and screwed in the post, creating a connection. This was a lot for my 14 year-old mind, and I'm VERY happy with the result. Now I need to save up some money for a good set up, maybe fixed wiring/pickup, and locking tuners.

Nice!
Get the rest of that gold off there and you're set right!

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Great work! One thing you may want to do is next time you change strings, use some Gerlitz Guitar Honey to hydrate that fingerboard. It looks really dry. Guitar Center carries the Guitar Honey at the accessory counter.

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
I know it looks dead, but I really don't know why... I give it some lemon oil every time I change the strings, but it never helps. Maybe it's the brand I'm using, which is Dr. Stringfellow. Next time I go to GC I'll pick up some Dunlop oil and see how that works out.

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Might have suggested removing the control and switch covers before sanding, and the "worn" neck bothers me, but I don't understand the "relic" thing so it's probably just me. For the most part, though, this actually looks really good.

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
That's some outstanding work for someone so young. A lot of hard work and determination and even some problem solving skills. The result is a one of a kind finished product that you have to be proud of. She looks great! I say well done!

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Sorry for reviving this dead thread, but I'm thinking about sanding down the whole front of the guitar. I think Mahogany with black hardware is sexy. Tell me what you guys think

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Poon, Are you sure that's not a maple veneer under the paint?

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
looks really cool man.
And I'd keep the white covers instead of the black. Seriously, how many people have black covers? You said you wanted unique right? I've never seen white covers before. |

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
Fender used (uses) the veneer to cover multipiece bodies and make the finish process more uniform even with solid colors. It covers and minor defects as well. I would guess it it the same here. It is looking good so far.

Re: Modding/Sanding Epiphone Studio Deluxe
I can't really give an honest opinion of what the end result will look like but I have an idea you will do a superb job on it. If it's what you want, go for it!
