Re: switchcraft toggle switch
if your unsure take your current switch out and measure its diameter, then check the demensions of the switch... if it dosent say contact the seller and ask... this will be your only sure way of knowing it will fit... someone here might eyeball it and say yep thatll fit... but you never know for sure with out numbers....

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
thatd would be a tight fit, if it fits at all... remember your going to have the wires comming off of it as well, then again the switch may not have all 1 1/2 inches inside of the cavity, some of that will be going though the hole and out of the hole... im sure someone will chime in thats replaced theres... what makes you want to change it anyways, is yours going bad?

Check out that site. He's compared a couple of switches cause the Epi's used different measurements, the switchcrafts might be a lil tight..

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
Of concern also is the length. I bought a long one just like that for my Gibson Vintage Mohogany and it was too long, but not by much - if I had a thick maple top it may have been a different story - maybe. I think as far as length goes, the shorter ones will more often fit than the longer ones.

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
I stated in another post about reaming the hole a little bigger. Notice the Epi switch has more threads. Once the hole is reamed place the switchcraft in. Notice maybe 1 or 2 threads peek over the top. You will have to remove some wood around the hole from the inside a little at a time until you have enough threads to secure the nut properly. Wires should be soldered downward towards the switch or it might not fit in the cavity.

Epiphone hasn't used a box switch like that since the mid 90's. This is what is in my Epiphone Les Paul. http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/ESHORTYTOGGLE.jpg these can be found in in about every Epiphone electric. Check the lower F hole of any Casino, Sheraton ,Dot, Wildcat and you will see a mini toggle just like the old switchcraft, only smaller. Last edited by sasquatch; 07-10-2008 at 06:19 PM. |

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
So what is the Switchcraft part number I should be hunting for then?
I have 1992 Epiphone Les Paul (with one of those boxy toggles) that needs a toggle upgrade. Would hate to order the wrong one. |

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
You can use the long Switchcraft type in a Les Paul. For an SG it takes a 90 degree type, or mini.

Re: switchcraft toggle switch
I fitted a long switchcraft toggle in my Epi LP. The length of the switch caused no problem and my guitar had the correct size hole (1/2" I think) so no reaming was required. What you do need though, is the deep nut due to the Epiphone being thicker in the area around the switch. I only did mine finger-tight and I have to have the toggle switch tip unscrewed slightly, as if I screw it right down it hits the nut and pings back into the middle position.
Deep nut ![]() Picture of toggle on my guitar. My brother has also fitted the same toggle on his Epi LP, but he tightened the nut more, so the tip could be screwed further down. Click on the thumbnail for a bigger pic ![]()
