Epiphone Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard (pics)

Got this a couple weeks ago thought i'd share. very pleased with everything. nice finish, like the sound of the burstbuckers, thick neck, set up straight out of the box. came with a good solid case. it really wails.

pictures are a little big so just bare with me.

Re: Epiphone Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard (pics)

One of my Epi's looks almost like yours! However, it's not a Limited Edition.. Mine has the Chrome Grover Tuners yet it has the thick neck.

BTW, How do you like the thick neck over the standard neck? I think "thick" gives more sustain IMO..

Great look'in guitar!!

Oh, My guitar is only a "Standard Plus" and only "looks" like yours..... Will not sound the same I'm sure.. I believe your guitar is called "Faded Ice Tea" isn't it? Mine is called Tobacco Sunburst Only nearly the same look. My Other Epi is a Vintage SB Plus and my real slugger is the Standard Ebony Black... and it's the overall tone/sustain god.

Re: Epiphone Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard (pics)

I have the same guitar, also in Faded Iced Tea. My Limited Edition number is 479 of 1959.

I added a pickguard and gold speed knobs. I'll try posting a pic tonight.

What number did you get?

you should post a pic man, love to see it. i actually have some chrome grovers too but i havent really got a problem with the ones that are on already so ill wait to put them on. the thick neck i really like. 2 of my les pauls have the fat neck, 1 other has a slim tapered neck that just seems a little flatter thats all. but the big neck suits me well. im 6'5 and have huge hands so it feels nice to have something to really grab onto and be able to dig into the fretboard you know.

Serial numbers do not make sense so you can't figure it out. You should have received a Cert of Authenticity. If you didn't get one call Epiphone, give them the serial number and they will send you one. Going to grab a bite to eat and then I'll post pics.

Take care

I think there are only 2 versions:

1959 of Faded Iced Tea
1959 of Faded Cherry Burst

I think I have a 59' Epi LP Standard but I'm unsure because mine doesn't have BurstBuckers or the metal pointers and the push/pull knobs for volume and tone. It has "USED" stamped on the back of the headstock with a new serial number but it covers the old one and I can read F301 and they burnt the remaining numbers.

You won't be able to figure the production number from the serial number> I contacted Gibson and they sent me my stuff. You will need to email Gibson customer support and provide the serial number and your address.

I believe there are two versions of the '59.
one is the version with the Rim burst paintjob which comes in the faded ice tea and heritage sunburst (or whatever they call it)
the other is the tear drop burst '59 which comes in only one color.

From what I've read, the Japanese ones came with Burstbucker 1&2, instead of 2&3 on the regular 1959 Standard.
They also have CTS pots(?) and ceramic disc caps, the regular ones come with Alpha pots and Mallory 150 poly film caps.
The Japanese '59 also follows the normal Epiphone serial number format, whereas the 1959 Standard (and the Tribute) have their own serial number format, starting with an F.
Also, the Japanese '59 had teardrop bursts while the regular 1959 Standard has rimbursts.

my 59 has the same stamp in the back of the headstock. the same everything you just mentioned. i didnt get metal pointers either so you probably do have a 59 LP Standard and more than likely there should be Burstbucker 2 & 3 pickups in the guitar. do you have a picture of the guitar?

edit: now reading more i see i have cts pots which would mean it was made in japan except it has the F serial code soo?

I have Alpha pots and for the pups they are Epiphone 57 classics.

Re: Epiphone Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard (pics)

Evilzeppelin,

That is not the same 59 as the others, including myself, have posted.

The Limited Editions 59's have Gibson Burstbuckers 2 and 3 not Epiphone pups. They have the serial numbers STAMPED into the headstock. Upgraded Switchcraft toggle. "Limited Edition & Custom Shop" on back of headstock.

I don't see anything to indicate this is a 59 Limited Edition. It might be a LE but not a 1959.

Why do you think it's a 1959?

I can read F301... stamped into that back up the headstock.

EDIT: here are some pictures.

My post was quoted out of context.
I mentioned somewhere earlier in that thread that the "Japanese" '59s were not made in Japan, they were made in China exclusively for the Japanese market.
Here's a link to the thread.

Re: Epiphone Limited Edition 1959 Les Paul Standard (pics)

1959 Standards also have Mallory Caps, not the orange disk caps. This guitar was probably built as a 1959 but QC rejected it, it was then stamped 2nd and they just threw whatever hardware was closest into it. I'm just guessing at that, but it does have a long neck tenon and looks to be a rim burst with an originally stamped serial, nothing that a regular standard would have. But not a Standard 1959 either.

How about some more pics showing the full guitar and closeups of the front and back of the headstock.

That top is so killer when I was gonna look for one at Long and Mcquade they have 1 but it was like 900$ and I had a budget..... So I bought my SG and some new Pickups. But I have to say I am slightly jealous of you right now. You're very lucky to own such a beautiful epi.

The pickup rings are too yellow and not the cream color of a true LE 59. The truss rod cover bottom 2 screws are not in the right location (note post #9). As previously posted, no Mallory caps.

FYI - My LE 59 has 7 numbers in the stamped Serial number - starting with an "F".

Maybe the electronics were switched out?

When I picked up the guitar they told me it's a older epiphone a Les Paul Standard Plus from early 00's but I'm unsure and now I'm starting to wonder if it's a fake... but I don't think it is.

I've emailed Gibson because I want to get to the bottom of what this guitar actually is, the company I bought it from put a new serial sticker on it and it covers the old serial number. I used the decoder site for the new serial and nothing comes up but I can see F301 under the sticker stamped into the headstock under the sticker along with USED.
