The Fake Epiphone Thread!

I won one auction on eBay for a black Custom. I got an e-mail a few days after paying to say that the guitar had been lost and he would send another. I then got another e-mail saying that his Paypal account had problems and my money would be refunded (which it was). Another e-mail said that he would personally deliver a guitar to my house and I could pay him cash. I obviously declined.
I then won another auction for another black Custom for £270. It was delivered two days later. It was very well packaged in an Epiphone box with a poster, lead and instruction booklet.
I inspected the guitar very closely and began to get suspicious. The quality was not what I would expect on a guitar around the £300 mark. The round cover on the back wasn't perfectly round. The screws looked cheap (I used to work in a screw factory !) and the frets near the neck were a liitle rough.
After finding this excellent thread and doing the checks that y'all suggested (the pick guard hole was the most obvious). I decided it was a fake and contacted the seller who said he was shocked and has agreed to refund me.
I have today been to a reputable guitar shop and bought a genuine Epiphone Les Paul Standard for £350.
Having both side by side the differences are very obvious.
The fake sounded ok but the Epiphone sounds stunning. That famous sustain is mind blowing if you haven't experienced it before.

Sorry about the long post but if it prevents somebody buying a dud then it was worth it.

ps The ebayer I bought from (2nd one) had 200+ ratings with 100% Feedback !

I think they have friends bid on their stuff for fake buys to make them look good. Glad it all worked out in the end...

GNR, is this guitar in this pic good? Because you said in your post that all the links he posted had good guitars. Just wondering. I called no because I see some things are wrong. Or maybe not.

What I was saying, is that the seller used real pic to sell a fake guitar. Click on sellers other items, theyre blatently fake. If you win the trans-blue, youll probably end up with junk instead.

i bought that exact trans blue guitar from that seller on ebay and i ended up with a navy blue guitar with an obviously played pickguard, and he told me he gets them shipped straight from china so he is obviously selling fakes. they look legit but trust me, dont buy from him! when i asked him why it was the wrong colour he said 'really, i didnt even check the colour to be honest' what an idiot!

He probably uses a 3rd party to ship from, so he never handles them.
As far as finding the one you want, Ebay isnt all bad, just keep putting them up here for us to look at. Or you can go to a reputable dealer near you. Usually, if its too good to be true, it generally is.

I'd stay away from that seller, he has a few fakes for sale.

Newbaby888 is a fake seller on eBay and they have now figured out that amazons rules and fake policy isnt as extreme as eBays.

Seriously mate ive noticed your after a Blue LP - but it from a shop because the extra £50 or so is the difference between a genuine and a fake.

You cant trust eBay now, just last week i bought a Grand Carrera on there for £2400 when it came it wasnt the one in the pics
