Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

Sin or Guns - you can prob get one ofthe mods to whittle down this thread a bit - Im showing 71 pages here, the majority of which are 'is this a fake' posts. Get rid of a whole bunch of them and some of the new guys can prob start finding the info thats important again, Id imagine it'd take a few hours to read this through from page 1.

Is it just me or are there an inrdinate amount of fakes now being sold in the UK??

Yes, that seems to be the case. Australia is trimming down a bit, so is the US, but theyre still there.

Epiphone Musical Instruments - Les Paul Collection

Does the Epiphone logo look that bad to you? I believe that it looks slightly different and similar than other one that have been noted a real.

What do you guys think? He wants $550 for it and it has ZW 81/85 pickups.

Thats an unreliable pic, its for an older Zack Wilde. (Click on same link you posted then click "close-up", youll see that the ring isnt there). Epiphone had this guitar picture up for quite some time, even though the guitars were coming without the switch ring. BUt if he got it from Guitar Center, maybe he can materialize the receipt? Because I am not certain whether or not they added the ring for 08'. Perhaps you can call GC and ask?

In the other thread you had more pictures, and the missing ones are probably going to be the more helpful, especially the one of all six tuners.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

I just recieved a epiphone les paul from ebay, the person i bought it from on ebay sells quite a few guitars and the one i recieved was a different colour to the one i bid on. they said they would replace it, it looks genuine but i was wondering if epiphone do a dark blue, almost navy colour with a sort of light zebra kinda stripe under the paint? the guitar was in an epiphone box and had an epiphone tag on it, it feels like a real guitar but they are selling it as new, and the plastic white thing next to the humbuckers (dont know what its called sorry!) has light scratches on it, like a plec has been brushed past it a few times. do you think they are selling a fake or a 2nd hand one as a new one or anything? thanks

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

i couldnt pick up the colour very well or the scratches with a camera, sorry. do you know of any colours matching this description though? sorry its a pretty crap description! they accepted to have it returned, but when i asked if its shipped direct from china (cuz apparently they go straight to tenessee first) and mentioned the scratches and whether he was selling 2nd hand ones (it had all the tags on it) and he just dodged the questions! thanks

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

how can i tell? the guitar he sent me by accident seems in pretty good condition, seems like a real guitar but im no expert. it just seems odd that it has epiphone tags on it but the pickguard is scratched. i havent really seen anything else that says fake about it but with the amount of hype about fake epiphones it does make me worry.

I asked the seller about the ring and he told me that he added it himself from some spare LP parts that he had because he liked the way it looked.

Just tell him youre dissatisfied with the quality, tell him about the scratches also. But before you do, give it a good once over keeping in mind the details of what makes it fake, maybe even document with pics. Once he agrees, pack it up & send it back, and then turn in the address he gives you to the FBI fraud site.
