I know how you feel, sometimes it feels like im not getting anywhere then i think back to the time i couldn't even play the first four intro notes to "Wishing Well" without messing up. It's a very slow process and i have very little patience and concentration (Due to my ADHD) but i keep practicing, jamming, learning little bits of songs and eventually i hope it will all come together. Of course my very high standards don't help, being a massive Skynyrd fan and Rossington, Collins and Gaines being such amazing guitarists and me wanting to play just like them doesn't help me. My ultimate goal is to be able to play the full Freebird solo (live 14 1/2 minute version) so as you see a little bit more work needed yet.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

Hi there this is my first post. The first of many, I hope..

Anyway, I was looking at purchasing an Epi Les Paul Standard from a gentleman on Craigslist, the guy selling it is honorable and a good guy, however, I am trying to ascertain if it is real or a copy. So the key red flag is that I noticed the Epiphone logo on the headstock, the letter O split is facing down, instead of the traditional up, can you guys give some feedback as to whether its a fake, a misprint or a blemish? This guitar appears real in every other way....

Thoughts?

You guys are doing good work in here.

Thanks guys!
Steve

Weird, maybe someone else can chime in on this, I'm not an expert when it comes to the logo. Perhaps post some pics of the body and back?

That back plate is kind of funky, but the rest looks pretty good to me. What year is it?

I cant ascertain without some close-ups, but that "O" IS indeed one of the indicators. Need close-ups of the serial #, knobs and body.

Clearly spoken as if your opinion matters.
The guys a beginner, cut him some slack here. Or do you think someone should be able to pick up a guitar for the first time and play like Slash? I give him kudos for having the courage to post his videos knowing full well hes new at it and some French arrogant schmuck like you who thinks hes better than everyone else is going to hop on and have something stupid to say. Dont bother replying, its going to be a pretty dumb retort anyway and you know us egotistical Americans, we dont listen and do things our own way anyway. (Probably why we kick ass the world over, IMHO)

Nice.

some beginners do appreciate constructive cristism.
i said his guitar playing was pretty good but could easily be improved by tuning up or down half a step to get in sync with ozzy... i didnt say he was shit, did I ?

you are obviously too far up your ass to understand that.
seeming as i do get a lot of anti-french comments over here, i guess i'll move on.

shame, it was a nice place at first.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

I prefer my SG over my LP, I guess that could be a sin here too, but hey, I am the Sinmastah, so its udnerstandable. I love Les Pauls, but I gotta fight mine to make it play

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

Hi, Im seriously considering buying an epi les paul custom and the prices on Ebay just look so good, they say they come straight from the epi factory, but also say that you can take the serial number to a website that can confirm its authenticity, is this true or are these guitars fake?

They are fake. Never buy a guitar that comes straight from the factory, or straight from China. Also having a legit serial number doesn't mean your guitar is legit. Go to the site they mention and plug in 070499999 and you will see what I mean.

Re: The Fake Epiphone Thread!

Man, I've been reading this post for over an hour and didn't even get halfway through the whole thing. I knew there were tons of Gibson fakes floating all over eBay, but never thought that the Epiphones would be such a problem. I would have figured by the time you paid to have one made and sent over here, it would not be worth thier time to counterfiet them. I learn something new everyday. I have a Custom in Silverburst I bought from a bro over at Seymour Duncans site, but I'm pretty sure it's real since he bought it new at GC last December. I've got it posted for sale or trade on a couple other sites, but haven't gotten around to posting it here. They are good guitars, I just can't get used to the neck. It's a bit thinner and different than either of my Gibsons.

Well, if you are worried about it feel free to post here. But if he bought it at GC it should be fine.

Yeah, I was always careful about eBay, but remember you can still get great deals on a guitar. I've gotten some of my best deals on eBay (Not just guitars either). Also welcome!
