Construction Question
This is my first post here so hello to everyone. I recently (just a few days ago) had my Epiphone Trad Pro stolen in a burglary. Of course this really sucks, but I'm trying to look at this in the best light possible. For the last few months I had been gathering parts to do a mostly complete upgrade. I still have the pots, bridge and tailpiece, switch, caps, jack and I've already paid for but not yet received pickups. So my question is: Hardware and electronics aside, what is good way to go for a replacement? Would a Standard with a maple cap be as good as any other? I'm trying to keep it around $500.

Re: Construction Question
I suggest going for a used guitar. You could get some really good deals that way.
I always see Standards and Customs on craigslist going for 300 - 400 usually, HSC included. Just remember that they aren't made out of real mahogany and real maple, they're usually a mixture of alder, mahogany and maple I believe, and usually have a veneer over the wood. If you HAVE to buy new, I suggest the ebony Standard. The cheapest one out there usually, and still a great guitar.

Re: Construction Question
Welcome to MLP Novo! Sorry about the burglary. That really sucks. Some people just ain't got no respect.
![]() I'm in the middle of the same kind of project. I have a 22 year old MIK Epi Cherry Burst. Stripped everything off the guitar and buffing some of the poly shine off with poly wool (like schotchbrite). Then replacing all new hardware and new pickups. Just find yourself a used Epi that has a good neck and looks the way you like and I bet it will sound like a whole new guitar when you get done. Good luck and sure hope you get your stolen gear back. |

Re: Construction Question
Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll look around and see what's available. It's not that I HAVE to buy one new but that I WANT to get one relatively soon. Just want to make the right choice for good sound/tone.

Re: Construction Question
Yup. I'd go for used, or maybe a "project". You can save a bunch, since you are upgrading the parts anyway. If you find a project, just be sure the body and neck are all good, and just build your dream machine..
