Replacing tuning pegs on grocers?
I have an epiphone les Paul standard that has modern 'kidney bean' grover tuners. I prefer the look of the vintage plastic looking tuning pegs (like the ones you see on the older Korean les Pauls) and wondered if it's possible to change just the pegs for something that looked similar without having to change the tuners themselves?
I suspect it's not possible but though it was worth asking. Damn, just realised my stupid iPhone went and corrected 'grovers' to 'grocers' lol. I hate that damned feature |

Re: Replacing tuning pegs on grocers?
I found these
DOUBLE RING KEYSTONE BUTTONS FOR GIBSON KLUSON TUNERS - eBay Guitar Parts, Parts Accessories, Guitar, Musical Instruments. (end time 02-Oct-10 02:12:21 AEST) You attach them by gluing them onto the shaft after you've taken off the kidney bean buttons, but I'm not too sure of the size of the hole and whether they would fit on. Maybe you could email the seller. |

Hey, you've given us a laugh.
And I had to check the thread. Just say Grovers? I might have skipped the thread.

![]() Man, that's a lot of trouble to go through for, uh, what? I'd just get new tuners with a higher gear ratio or some other feature to justify my, uh, whatever.

Re: Replacing tuning pegs on grocers?
I just watched a video of Jimmy Page talking about his #1 to a Gibson rep who was there to pick it up to take back to the factory to crank out copies. Page says that Joe Walsh had grovers put on it before he bought it from him, and he decided to keep them. If they're good enough for Jimmy, they're good enough for me.
