Question , after setup...

So I picked up my LP yesterday after it was worked on, I had it re-stringed and setup. I also had a new pick-guard put on. The guitar sounds good and most of the fret buzz is gone. I am using Ernie ball hybrids (9,11,16,26,36,46).

When I dropped off the guitar I was asked what was wrong, what strings I wanted and one more question I cannot remember but think had to deal with the intonation. I told them that I only played in open E so to do the basic.

Now I find my self needing to play in E flat. If I tune down to e flat is this going to cause any intonation problems or introduce fret buzz? The guitar has a low action (which I love). and I really like how it feels so I don't want to mess around and screwup anything. Tomorrow i will be posting pics of my Baby, I still need to pick a name for her but I don't know what to name her yet.

Update Here are some Pics:

Re: Question , after setup...

For tuning down with strings that light you may need a neck adjustment to give the neck some more relief.

I don't know about your guy, but I offer a free "re adjustment" period of 1 week.

He may do the same, if not he should.....loosening the rod takes minimal time.

Cheers,
Roman

Re: Question , after setup...

Our shop also does "readjustments" after setup - something that I usually take advantage of since I'm not to be trusted near a truss rod. If I'm not mistaken, it can take some time for the neck to settle in after a truss rod adjustment?

yeah the guitars woods has to adjust to the new pressures its feeling and wont necessarily have the same clearances it did an hour after your set up when you go to play it 3 or 4 days later.

Re: Question , after setup...

Great Thank much guys I will call the shop tomorrow and ask for a good time for a re-adjustment.

What a minute.... I think This is a good reason for me to buy another guitar.. hmmm I mean I can leave the Epi on standard tuning and buy a Gibson to use in E flat....

My wife is going to kill me.

Hmm now I'm curious as to how does a person deal with neck adjustments on a Gibson Robo Guitar? does the guitar also take care of the neck adjustments for you?

Re: Question , after setup...

Robot guitar doesn't do anything for your truss adjustment, but DOES "tell" you how to adjust your intonation. You poke the intonation command/button/switch/knobber guy, and then you hit the open string and the octave - it lights up and tells you which way to turn the saddle screw and lights up more or less depending on how much you need to turn it.

I don't have one, but when the Robot Guitar toured our shop, I sat down with the Gibson Rep for a little bit and he showed me the ropes.

That's not very robotic... I guess it's cool to teach you how to do the intonation stufff but If I had a GENUINE ROBOT guitar I'd expect it to tune, intonate, truss rod adjust, pickup height adjust, and string change!

I'd call it my Slave guitar

Its pretty impressive none the less. It tunes the guitar like magic - restringing is a breeze - and you can program your own tunings in to the guitar. Very cool.
