Re: New Epi won't stay in tune

Have you bothered to intonate the bridge? I remember tweaking mine when it arrived in the mail from Musician's Friend.

How in the world am I just now learning this? I guess I've been lucky so far with my guitars but I love learning new things. This site is fantastic.

Barely fit the nut IMO is a good thing they tend to not bind up as much as they would deep seated in the nut

Make sure you lock your strings when you install them. Then when you get some extra cash, get rid of those crappy tuners Gibson and Epiphone use on their guitars.
This just my opinion, I could be wrong.
You are most definitely entitled to your opinion, and I am not saying that new tuners would not help to some degree, but I have never had any trouble with stock tuners when the nut, bridge saddles and all other aspects of the guitar's setup have been correct.

Re: New Epi won't stay in tune

Nothing like a good set-up, that's for sure! I've never had a problem with my axes going out of tune, either. Especially not my Epi LP with freakin' Grovers!

I will have to remember to put my hearing aid in when I browse the forum, or would wearing my glasses be a better idea,. Old guys: we can be a pain.

Re: New Epi won't stay in tune

Agreed - stock tuners have never let me down (Grovers) as long as my nuts don't bind and my saddles are burr free.

Re: New Epi won't stay in tune

Usually it's is the nut, like me! However the stock tuners in my Epi and Classic weren't up to par, that's why I mentioned it. The bridge? If it isn't set up right, It wouldn't be in tune in the first place. A burr would cause problems, yes.

I hear ya!

Re: New Epi won't stay in tune

1 Crush up pencil lead (graphite) and mix it in vaseline. apply nut slot.
2 Review your stringing method. there are 2 or 3 ways to do it. One is the best...(I't's all out there in the web)

3 chinese grovers are fine.
4 If these above things fail, remove strings and check for burrs in your saddles. they could use lube too. smooth burrs with jewlers files. Take to shop if this sounds like a challenge your not into.
5 ROCK ON!
