new guitar day ....for my son
i snagged a black standard off craigs list for the case (i had skb wanted epiphone to match my others) that i intended to sale. but my son saw a pic of slash playing one somewhere and decided that all black les pauls are slash's lol. so he decided he wanted to keep it and sell his sg..... so we pulled his seymor duncans out of the sg and dropped into the les paul and swapped on some gold speed knobs i had. he likes pick gaurd so i lost that battle lol.... well i know it never happened with out pics so....
![]() here the collection at the moment...sg is for sale or gonna trade for epiphone afd as soon as they come out lol ![]()

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
Nice Collection!
You should seriously think about putting metal jack plates on the LP's. Chrome on the first two then gold plated on the ebony. (possibly gold plated on the Amber toned one but not sure) It would look cool.

Sounds like a waste of money to me, you can't even see the jack plate when you're playing it. Each to their own though. Guitar looks good, you've done what I did last week. Swapped an SG for a Les Paul just like that, and put Duncans in it. I DID take the pickguard off though. I can't believe Slash kept a pickguard on his!

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
Stock plastic jack plates are merely a broken part waiting for the wrong time to break. The metal ones aren't just for looks. they also strengthen a physically weak part of the guitar.

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
That looks really good - took me a good few minutes to realises I was in the Epiphone section! What's the 'lemon' LP with the zebra pups? That looks very nice.

so, they're, ummm... already broken, yet awaiting the "wrong time" to break again??? My EE made LP is 3 1/2 years old, jack plate is fine. If you're stressing your jack plate that badly, then you surely must be stressing your cord and guitar and amp jacks themselves. If one loves the look of metal jack plates, that's fine and dandy ... but the stock plastic is more than adequate for non abusive players.

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
Metal jack plates? I never thought of that.
I have a habit of steping on my cable when I'm on stage, and yes I have ruined a cable end or two. I recently upgraded to Livewire Elite and they have a lifetime warranty so if I do bust em big deal. But I know that can't be healthy for the guitar jack also. So I might have to look into the metal platesAnyway... Nice collection! Got your son off on the right foot

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
You're a cool dad!! Good for you! As for the metal jackplates... I agree. I always try to change mine out for metal since the plastic one on my 79 Standard busted on me during a gig when I was in high school. They always seem to start cracking around the screw holes a few months after I buy a new LP...

Re: new guitar day ....for my son
It looks more like a lemon burst from your pics. Honey Burst have alot more brown around the edges. Here is my Honey burst plain top for example.
