I think I'm ready to crossover..

..to the Epi side. I've played Gibson exclusively for about 20+ years. I went into my local GC today, it wasn't the Gibsons turning my head, it was the Epis. I saw three that really caught my eye, and I coulda owned all three for less...way less than what I paid for two of my Gibsons.

The three that caught my eye:
1) an ebony Les Paul (not sure on the model) but it had aged yellow binding and hardware. It looked exactly like my first les paul, a well aged ebony '78 custom

2)a honey burst plain top standard, it looked just mouth watering sitting there

3) a gloss natural carved top with black plastic, It appeared to be all mahogany(including the top). No stain, just gloss natural finish. i love woody looking guitars, and that one gave me wood!

Those three are gonna be eating away at me untill I make one, or all mine

Hey Marc, it's good to see ya! It's up to you, but I hope their quality has improved since I bought mine. If I knew then what I know now, I would've bought something else.

Well just looking and playing on em there T GC, they seem pretty good. If I could have em for a few days and play em through my amp, I'd really know if they are great. But for the price you cant beat em.

Ok the gloss natural is the Walnut Special LTD
Epiphone Ltd Ed Les Paul Studio Walnut Electric Guitar and more Solid Body Electric Guitars at GuitarCenter.com.

Honey burst standard:

and the aged Ebony...which is no longer available (maybe I should jump on it):

They're a bargain, IMO, but be prepared to buy some new pups. I found the stocks a little substandard. I put 57's in my Epi Custom and can't say enough good things about it.

The Ebony, that one is 100 times sexier than the other two.

Re: I think I'm ready to crossover..

Welcome to the dark side! I almost bought one of the aged ebony guitars myself. I have a honey burst plain top. I finally got my alpine white custom, and I got my G400. I couldn't be happier. I wish I could afford a Gibson but I cant so I got the next best things.

Re: I think I'm ready to crossover..

Nothing wrong with that. If I didn't have too many guitars already (mostly cheap) I'd go get one myself just to have a solid Les Paul. Shit, I'd still love one of those Custom Shop Worn Les Pauls.

Want to really twist your mind?, pick up a Tele.
They won't blow away an LP, but it's comparable
to being on another planet.

Have one. Couldn't agree more. It's one of the best guitars I've ever played.

Re: I think I'm ready to crossover..

I own one of those Custom Classics with the aged binding (hence my handle) and I love the thing. It's one of my favorite axes. And, eventhough I usually don't dig the stock Epi pups, these sounded killer & I left 'em in. It's the old "If it ain't broke..." thing.

Nothing wrong with playing an epiphone! I've got a few and I love them.

Re: I think I'm ready to crossover..

I've owned tons of Epis, most have been great guitars, once given a few modest upgrades.

I've owned Gibsons off and on for 34 years, and I have no problem taking an Epi out on the road at all. The newest batch are the best they've ever been.
