Utra neck finish question

I'm wanting to duplicate the finish from my Ultra on another guitar I am building.

Does anyone know what type of finish Epi uses on the Ultra neck? I'm guessing it is dyed and then cleared over with a satin clear coat.

It doesn't seem to be very thick. Possibly just a thin coat of clear lacquer over the dye?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should read the opening post and use google to try and understand what satin means. Satin, gloss, semi-glass, matte are terms used to describe the sheen of a finish. It is not a type of finish. Try going to Home Depot and asking for just satin. You could be asking for paint, polyurethane or material to make a dress as satin describes all three.

Epiphone Les Pauls are finished with poly, whether it is gloss or satin, unless it is a Japanese made Limited Edition Laquer model.

He could get a "satin" finish by using satin poly, dulling down a gloss poly or going for a Gibson Les Paul feel and using nitrocellulose lacquer. For a different feel to the neck you could also leave it raw or use tung oil. There are many options.
