Epiphone Les Paul Ultra

Hi guys,

Can you help me verify this guitar as real or fake ?

If I'm looking for a fat, classic Les Paul tone, will the Ultra disappoint me? I know it's a chambered body, but wouldn't that simply increase sustain and decrease weight?

I value your opinions.

thanks

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra

Well from the picture I can see there, it looks similar to the one next to me here on the couch. We will need to see some more photos or perhaps a link to the auction/ad/whatever it is you are buying it from to help confirm.

Here are my thoughts on the Epi Ultra:

1. The pickups are terrible. I plan to swap these out for some GFS Crunchy Pat's.
2. The bridge and tailpiece seem cheap, I have new ones from StewMac on the way here.
3. I love the weight of the guitar. The chambering process makes for a cozy guitar that is a pleasure to play.
4. Unplugged the Ultra has more audible tone than other guitars. This is likely due to the chambering. Ive spent the last few hours practicing on the couch without even being plugged in and its been great.

So other than the poor hardware (compared to my '02 Gibby LP Studio, keep in mind) which is easily fixed without hurting your wallet to much, its a good axe. The tone stock isnt bad at all, I just have spoiled ears from my Gibby LP and SG.

HTH, this isnt meant as a knock on the guitar at all. For the price, it kicks butt.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra

How much are they asking for it? I got mine new at GC for $499, no tax as I traded in some other gear that day and they waived taxes on the in store stuff I bought.

It looks fine to me, but I personally wouldn't trust someone who just gives you one low-res pic.

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra

Looks about right. The knobs look a little out of line, but I think that is just the picture.

You should post this in the "Fake Epiphone II Thread". But that picture is NOT enough to go on.
