So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
and came home with a new LP Ultra.
Been playing it for the last few hours and I love it. The lighter weight and slimmer neck are great. And I even like the cut away on the back. The action is almost perfect. maybe just a tad bit too high. I'll correct that tomorrow. Still need to put new strings on it and clean it up a bit. Here's a couple of pics ![]() ![]()

Re: So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
Got her all cleaned up and polished. I know how much everyone likes pictures so I took a few more. I also replaced the amber bell knobs with a set of gold speed knobs that I had laying around., but I didn't get a pic of those yet.
![]() ![]() ![]() Now it's time to get back to work on that gold top

Drop dead gorgeous Ultra there. Have an '06 Korean and love it. What did you "clean" it with, had to put on my Ray-Ban super UV's to peek. Enjoy.

I use Adams automotive polishes for everything. Very safe.
A little expensive, but I use these same products for my car. The only difference is on the car I use a random orbital buffer and the guitars I do by hand.

Boy those are pretty, every time I go in a GC with the intent of buying one of those, they don't have any in stock. It's just as well, I cant play the guitars I have now.

Re: So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
this one was discounted a $100. they told me it was their last one and that they had been discontinued.
My serial # shows that it was made in Aug '09, so, I guess that means they had it in the store for almost a year? I've been in that store dozens of times and played just about every LP in there and never noticed this one before. |

Re: So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
maybe there's an even newer version? I know they told me it was discontinued because the new version would be on sale soon. That's why it was marked down. Then again, it was GC and they have been known to be wrong a time or two

Re: So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
Sorry, forgot to consider the source. When I got mine home I realized it didn't have the pickguard or hardware. The next day I went back to sort it out. The sales guy told me that Ultra's don't have pick guards. I picked up their own advertisement 10 feet away on another counter and showed him the picture of the Ultra with th pickguard. Can't argue with that.

I wish mine had been shipped without the pickguard. I prefer the no pickguard look, but I hate the open screw holes when you take it off. |

Re: So, I went to GC tonite to get some strings..
Nice lookin' Frehley, too! Beautiful top on her, bro (the Ultra). I had an Ultra for a bit. I put a 57 Classic Plus in the bridge & she sounded really cool. I just couldn't get used to the lighter weight for some reason, so I sold it to one of my students. Kept it in the family & I still get to see her once in awhile. Congrats on the new axe!
