Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Sorry good point....guitar generally good shape, frets look like new, no dents, few light scratches in back, chrome good shape, claim original pickups, but not sure what came standard? Typical "faded" finish, almost satin, thin looking, but decent top....most used "Standards" in Cda sit close to $ 1800 mark from what I can see, and new in the $ 2200 range for Standard or Traditional, but didnt know what the Faded listed for when new, just that they were less??
Tks for feedback so far, appreciate it

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
When I got mine a couple years back, it was 2100 USD for the 60s neck. My model is the Les Paul Standard Faded (07) 60s neck in a faded cherry burst.

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Doesn't matter--still too high in my opinion--for a Faded.
But then I probably wouldn't buy a Faded anyway.

Awesome platform. Cheaped out on the amount of finish and the use of, in my case two 490s with cheap caps and pots. But I rectified that with jonesys wiring and a pair of Sheptones. And paid less than a new standard.

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
The finishes look and feel cheap, which affects how I perceive the guitar--not for me.
If you love it--great. But they do nothing for me.

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Thanks, it is a Les Paul Standard faded, burst, used...its located about 3 hrs from me but will be in that area next week so figured would try it...many say like sound of the faded better with thinner finish, but can't quite picture the finish if its basically just sanding sealer! Could likely refinish but....
Price just seemed higher than I expected for what seems to be an "orphan" Les Paul...guess I need to play it and see what its worth to me....but really appreciate the feedback from all...

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
$1400 Canadian seems very fair. Offer a little less if it doesn't sell.
Larry Corsa (search) feels that they are the best platform from Gibson for what he does (includes some finish work). |

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Thanks and will check out the threads noted,...I do recall reading one of Larry's and the mods sound cool....the Faded apparently has had a nitro refinish on the top, so its really an "orphan" at this point...will play it next week if still avail and see......

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
They seem to be in the $1200 range USD. Ive been watching them as I like the finish on them better then the shiny loads of poly. The pickups should be zebra Burstbucker Pros.

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Apparently its a stock 2008, but has covered pickups, and nitro re-finish top, and standard sealed finish on side/backs, OGC included, but want 14 cdn

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
They aren't poly. They are numerous coats of nitro, wet sanded, sanded etc toa shiny finish whereas the faded is an un-buffed thinner coat of nitro. You can buff them shiny if you wanted.

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
They are killer guitars for the money , mine is a pleasure to own and play , couldn't believe the price compared to a regular standard, if you're worried that the satin finish isnt quite what you want then polish it up using several layers of polish , in my case i uesd meguiars car polish and it came up superb ! They have nickel hardware just like the standards and burstbucker pros , a great guitar !!

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Thanks, I am going to see it tommorrow night and see how it sounds and how it looks...this one has had a nitro refinish on the top but sides and back are untouched..so its kinda of standard and kind of a faded...in between so caught between both LP camps, and hoping it helps me get a deal.....

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
Thanks to all for your help, I bought it!! Pictures on the main site.....I love it!!!
Top has been professionally nitro'd but back and neck are original so top and figure looks great, but rest has that natural not sticky feel....realize tone may suffer a bit, but stil way more guitar, than I have talent so not likely big factor :-) Tks to all

Re: Les Paul Faded- $1400 ..too much
1400 seems a little high for a faded standard. They ocassionally go that high but if you look around you can pick them up for under 1200 in excellent condition.
Personally I would never pay more than 1250 for one. Buy the way I hope you got a really good deal they say a refinish job drops the value of the guitar roughly in half. (then again it depends on the model guitar and a ton of other factors) Although being honest what really matters the most is how it sounds and plays. Hope this helps. |
