PRS SE - Live.com Cash Back Worked!

I just had to try this 30% back from live.com after everyone talking about it... Looks like it worked! I'm getting $135 back on this guy, taking the price down to $365 to my door. Not bad considering it would be $750 for the guitar and case new...

I've been pretty impressed with these PRS SE's - although I don't think that PRS should have used their name on 'em! (an "Epiphone" equivalent would have been smarter IMO). This should tide me over until I can afford a USA PRS - but, in the mean time, my Christmas present is officially purchased.

Ok. Go to "live.com" and register an account there. Read their little thing on Cash Back - its helpful.

Go to the live.com search window - search for "Gibson Les Paul Junior" or whatever - there will be a "banner ad" above the web results which will say something like "save 30% on ebay purchases" or something to that effect.

You click on that, and it will take you in to Ebay and show all of the relevant "buy it now" items. Only buy it now items are eligible for cash back. While you're inside, there will be a little dollar sign in a gold circle at the top and "30%" next to it.

(you must have an ebay account and a paypal account, and pay thru paypal)

Click on "Buy It Now" - it will take you to the "confirmation screen." BE SURE that it says the item and price, and below that it will say "this item is eligible for $XXX.XX cash back from Microsoft live.com" (or something to that effect). It MUST be there before you click "commit to buy" or from what I gather, you're screwed.

Pay with paypal like you normally would - you pay the full price up front.

About five minutes later, you will get a message in your Ebay mail that says "get your cashback" (or something like that

) - open that email, and it will link you to your live.com account and associate the purchase with your live.com account and your paypal account. The cash back amount will appear in your live.com account, and it tells you that the balance will be paid to your paypal account within 60 days.

I was a little speculative - but I'll be damned if didn't work like a charm! (I haven't gotten my cash back as of yet, but have no doubt that Ebay and Microsoft aren't out screwing all of us!).

You MUST NOT open any other windows - there must be a direct path between your live.com search, clicking in to ebay, and paying for the item BEING SURE that the discount is mentioned on the confirmation screen. $200 back is the max per item. You can apparently use it 12 times a year (I used it twice last night - got $55 back on a $180 printer for my wife). Microsoft is just paying out the nose for people to start using their "live.com" service - but I'm sure as hell going to take advantage of it!

I learned of this from others talking about it on the forum here, and had to try it out!

And, I think I made out quite well on that guitar/case! The case has a street price of $100 - so I scored the guitar for about $215 + shipping.

I haven't seen the Ebay banner (with percentage off) on the live.com search in a couple of weeks. Is it over?
