Re: Tuneomatic Low E string saddle screw broke

Dude--that sucks!

It can probably be drilled out with no problems by a good tech. He/She will then put a new screw in for ya.

Find a used bridge on ebay. A parts bridge, if you will. There is a little C clip that holds each screw in place, it is a pain in the butt to get out, but can be done with a small dental pick.

once you get it out, install the new screw. There is no need to drill it out.

I know of no place where you can get replacement screws, so I would go the "parts bridge" route.

Looks like the saddle was all the way back and you turned the screw to far braking off the head. I have seen this happen before.

Re: Tuneomatic Low E string saddle screw broke

You have to reverse the saddle--it'll get you a bit more play.

Re: Tuneomatic Low E string saddle screw broke

You have to carefully removed the retaining wire, unscrew it until you can take the screw out, then flip the saddle to face the other way. It'll give you more play in that direction.

Hmmm, different clips than than older ones I have worked on. However It is great to find out that replacement parts are being sold!

How I would do it without drilling is 1st get the clip off.

The only thing that should have threads is the saddle itself. there should be no threads on the body of the bridge.

The screw is designed to just rotate in the bridge, As you turn the screw, the threads move the saddle back or forth.

If you have some needle nose pliers, once you get the clip off you could grab the shaft of the screw that is left and turn it.

I could tell you better with some better pictures

Re: Tuneomatic Low E string saddle screw broke

Look at your other saddles and see if you have a "C" clip or the wire kind.

From the pictures, the saddle will have to come forward to get to the clip.
see if you can turn the screw body with needle nose pliers.

Re: Tuneomatic Low E string saddle screw broke

With the string tension relieved you might be able to slide the whole thing (saddle and screw) towards the headstock, then use a set of needle-nose pliers to unscrew it.

The retaining clip must be GENTLY removed--I use a set of needle-nose, and very carefully ease out the ends. There's a little bit of spring tension on it.

One piece of advice. get a clean uncluttered work area and use a sheet or large towel...............that stuff can FLY.

Take the bridge off of the guitar to work on it.

What he said! I almost lost my retaining wire, and I was on my kitchen table!
