How do I relic my pickguard and rings?

I have a cream colored pickguard, and it's just too damned....bright and "new looking". Same with the pup rings.

What's the fastest, cheapest way to relic them? I don't want to use nitrocellulose, or even order anything. I was thinking of going to walmart and getting some kind of polyurethane finish.

What do you think?

I'm not sure but I've heard of this and have seen great examples of it on the "other" forum.

What do you think?
Buy a fingernail polishing stick from the dollar store ( it is actually different grades of micromesh) & file or buff the whole thing working from courses to finest ,
then buy ritz clothing dyes . yellow & sunset orange & soak in each,
Then buff with fine polisher grades to lighten in heavy areas ,
then you can use shoe polish brown ( the hard can kind) & rub to darken if you desire
Also rub it in dry dirt or a heavily used outdoor rug
Can add the fake string wear under each string before the above steps with a small file

Wow...thanks.
So, I have to kind of ruff it up first with the fingernail polishing stick?

Yes roughing it with the stick is critical.

another way I believe will work well Is to use a box & double stick tape the part to upper lid & smoke it with incense or nicatine
,I use a incense bong bottle to age my tips from white to a dark amber. It puts a hard rezon which if too dark can be micromeshed back

Re: How do I relic my pickguard and rings?

Thanks Flick. I worked on relicing my PG a few weeks ago. The kiwi brown shoe polish worked great, problem was it fades out completely in one good sun sitting. I even tried putting it on thick and letting it sit for 20min. No go, it still faded out after a morning in the sun.

You've got me wanting to try one of those tips though, I just need to find some old cutlery.

Re: How do I relic my pickguard and rings?

Hey guys! This looks great by the way, but I need help. I am also relicing my guitar, but unlike the easy cream and white covers, I have a BWB pichguard/ trem cover for my Strat, with Red pickup covers and knobs. How would I go about relicing this? I also posted a similar question regarding black hardware in another thread. Any help, either a repl or PM would be appreciated. Thanks!

Put the trem cover in the closet and then follow Flick's advice for the rest. Shouldn't matter with the red.
