Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
I am looking for a bridge made by Floyd Rose. They were made in the 80s, and they seem to have been discontinued. It is basically a Floyd Rose locking tremolo that can be installed without chopping any wood off of the body (although the nut must be modified for it to be double-locking). Apparently these are rather rare, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here knew where I could find one. Here's some pictures and more info:

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
The LP units were created by Floyd and Kramer to be installed on Les Paul guitars with little to no modification. However, the literature didn't state that the neck would have to be modified in order to install the locking nut. These are very rare, and are occasionally seen on ebay for sale.
these units work on the top of the guitar like a kahler and you wont get the dramatic effect of a a floating Floyd Rose. I would recommend a Kahler 2200 or a 7200 heres a thread on the gibson forum about what you will have to do Kahler on an LP? - Les Paul - Gibson Forums

Kahlers are much better suited to TOM installed LPs..... floyd tried to complete with kahler with that horrible looking POS.....

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
i personally believe a kahler is better for any situation short of being eddie van halen, and that's not gonna happen. anyway this looks to me to be some kind of kahler ripoff, only that's exactly what it is. you can find the genuine article at several different shops or online merchants. i recommend wammi world. if you really want this floyd retrofit, you're gonna need to really search, and again, it's likely a ripoff. it is my personal opinion that kahler is the best of the double-locking tremolos

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
Installing a traditional Floyd Rose on an existing Les Paul is hit-or-miss, depending on the neck angle. You can easily end up with a Floyd that sticks up in the air, rather than having one that's recessed (better). Often, you can't even close the case on these suckers. And, too, you end up with a big old swimming-pool cut in the back of the guitar.
A Kahler will require about a 3/4" - 1" rout in the top of the guitar, but no rout in the back of the guitar. The old FR for the Les Paul that you're looking at wasn't all that good, and while it didn't require a rout, players didn't flock to it at all. In the end, they put Kahlers and traditional FRs on their guitars for a reason. They were simply better. I recognize the wish to avoid putting holes in your LP -- but I've gotten around that by simply buying a new one and taking it directly to the shop (before I've even played it) and getting the mods taken care of. That way the NEW guitar already has the various routs and battery boxes and switches in place, and it's as if they were always there (in a way, that's true). And trust me, I've put some serious holes in new guitars <G>. |

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
You will be hard pressed to find one of those and in my opinion it would not be worth the time and money if you do find one. They did not work very well and were prone to warping (the cheap base plate that the floyd is mounted to bends). Floyd vs Kahler, the war will go one forever, I'm a Floyd guy myself, I have a kahler aslo, they both have their pros and cons. I would suggest that if you really want an agressive tremolo you will have to go all the way and cut in to your guitar body, Kahler or Floyd type that is. Go Bigsby if you don't wan to route out wood. Schaller makes a no-mod to body tail, I've never used one myself. It all depend on what you want to do with your trem. Divebomb= double locking, vibrato = bigsby. Hope that helps

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
I want something that does not require me to route out the body at all; I want this modification to be reversible. While those Kahlers seem good, as I understand it they force me to cut out wood from the body.
Also, I really hate Bigsby tremolos, they are horribly designed and don't stay in tune whatsoever. I was also considering a Stetsbar from stetsbar.com, but I'm not sure about them. Does anyone have experience with a Stetsbar on their guitar? Does anyone have any other suggestions for a tremolo that stays in tune well and yet does not require any routing? |

Re: Where can I find the Les Paul Floyd Rose?
A buddy of mine has a stesbar on his LP. I've never played it, but it stays in tune really well. Also has good range. They're kind of pricey at $219 for the least expensive... but whatever works. Here's a link to their site: https://stetsbar.com/cgi-bin/commerc...B&keywords=all
