Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

It was time for me to change strings today and this was also my chance to use Fret Doctor for the first time.

Before applying Fret Doctor, I used a cotton cloth to wipe the dirt from the fingerboard. Alternatively, you could use a toothbrush.

Before pictures:

A few more for comparison:

I'll then wipe the excess oil. By the way, I use Q-tips to apply Fret Doctor. Some like to use their finger or a cloth.

And the end result...

Here's another member with before and after pictures: Fret Dr!

As for Fret Doctor, great stuff
Alex, great looking board.

Here are some before and after shots I took

I was quite surprised at how much it enriched the dark tones in the board

Thanks, Thats Iced-tea.
Here are a few more shots of it, with replaced inlays and a couple more applicaitons of fret doctor..

This was the fretboard right after a few heavy applications. Almost ebony like. both guitars have lightened up a bit since.

I wonder, is there something better than a cloth or toothbrush? The gunk on my fretboard won't come off with a toothbrush. I've used 0000 steel wool, but I'd rather use something else.

I usually use the steel wool, but Dr Fret recommends a cleaner on the website.

a pic of my Strat rosewood f/board. I just applied a coat of FD and took the pic while I was waiting a minute to wipe off the excess. Nice....

Where can I find this stuff? MF, Gtr. Ctr. and my local shop all do not stock it. Is there a place to order online? If so, I couldn't find one. Help!

for gunky boards, i'm a fan of cleaning the board with naptha and scraping very gently with a razor blade. takes awhile, but works quite nicely.

Re: Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

After reading about Fret Doctor, I had purchased some and I got to say, "Man this is the best". I've been using it on my guitars when it's time for string changes. I've also been lubing the nut. Thanks everyone for some great advise.

Fret Doctor is great stuff, and the guy who sells it is great.
I sent him a personal check, and he even shipped without waiting for it to clear.

You don't see that too often these days.

Re: Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

I haven't tried fret doctor but I use some stuff called "guitar honey" that does a great job of conditioning the fingerboard.

Re: Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

you won't regret it..... although it's best after sanding the fretboard. Other oils create sometimes a film that won't let FD even touch the wood

Re: Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

FD is a mixture of 50 or so exotic and expensive natural oils. A chemist in Atlanta devised the formula and it's a winner. It's so pure it's edible...

Yeah thanks. I did a forum search for this and it brings you to the last post so I never noticed the original link. Ordered a bottle today. I hope everything turns out right since just a couple weeks ago I did the boards with 'Dr. Stringfellows Lemoil' and I hope I don't have to get some kind of cleaner to take that useless crap off with. The before and after pics in this thread are amazing. The boards on 2 out of my 3 LPs are very dry and light colored.

Re: Fret Doctor - Before and After Pictures

I have been using Fret Doctor for awhile now. May I suggest that you apply and let it rest overnight. Unless you(or someone before you) have somehow clogged the pores, it will be absorbed and then do the light buff. I do not believe that there is anything that will soften or otherwise clog the wood. Then, buff it up-that nice glow and the feel will be there and last longer. Some oboes and clarinets and bassoons are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars as are quite a few violin family instruments and they benefit from this application.mt

That stuff is liquid gold. I could practically hear the dried wood on my fretboards go: "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" when I applied the Fret Doctor. Here are some before and after shots and one of both my LPs that had extremely dry wood.
