Pickups
I play a LP Studio thru a Blues Jr. and play mostly music like...Phish, Grateful Dead...Jazz/blues/ fusion with some trancefusion as well. Im looking for some new pickups. I want the sound of P90's but think the hum will annoy me. What are the best P90 esq pickups that try to correct the hum. i know theres a few out there

Re: Pickups
the sound of a p-90 comes from a fat, single coil..
Duncan Phat Cats do a pretty good job of replicating a p-90 in a humbucker package. The GFS version is actually pretty good as well. But... the problem here is that a p-90 is a single coil, and you can't really replicate it with a humbucker.. I've tried some pickups that say p-90 sound in a humbucker and... I think the guy who wrote that was smokin crack! (even the phat cat does not give a true p-90 sound.. but its very close) Therefore... if you want a p-90, you will also want an ISP decimator pedal to go will it... It will take care of the noise problem!

Re: Pickups
I have some Gibson P100s in my LP Special. At least I'm pretty sure they are. I'm sure someone here could tell me a way to find out.
They were Gibson's attempt a humbucking P90. Not sure if they make them anymore. Mine aren't completely free of hum, but they sound great. |
