Installed tone pro's - less sustain from saddles?

I installed a tone pro's bridge and tail studs and had to slot the bridge saddles. Everything went fine, but I notice while playing it tonight, and jamming with a bud it seems to have less sustain. I can't figure out if the maxima gold strings are just different of if I cut the sting slots too deep on the bridge saddles. What kind of effect would this have, or could it have. I did a pretty clean job. Its probably just in my head, and the amp setting I was using...

If the slots are not cut just right, it can cause problems. To deep and you might not have enough pressure across the saddles. Also, I always cut the slots at a slight angle down towards the back. If you don't do this, you can get some weird overtones and fuzzy sounds. Hard to tell unless I have your guitar in front of me.

I was plannig on getting some Graphtech anyway so that will probably solve the problem if there is one. I'm going to throw the old bridge on quick to see if makes any difference.

How do you remove the saddles on a nashville?

Pain in the butt! there are small C clips holding the screws. I use dental tools to remove them. Make sure you have a clutterfree area when you go at it. If one of those C clips flies, it can be tough to find.

Re: Installed tone pro's - less sustain from saddles?

Hello all!

I replaced the stock stop tail piece with the Tone Pros aluminum T1ZSA nd am VERY happy with how it sounds. However I am still wondering and have two questions:
  1. Is there any difference between the stock studs and the pair that comes with the Tone Pros that would make it worth swapping them out?
  2. What are the views on adding the locking posts?

I am a bit of a tinkerer. I have an 02 Standard that I popped in the RS pots and Jensen caps (tried Hovlands and found them too sheer?) with some unpotted Duncan 59s from Specialty Guitars. WHAT a difference!

OK 3 questions!
I am planning to refinish the top from the light burst to a Heritage Cherry burst. I want to dye the top a little first to get the flame to POP. What have folks used for that purpose (color/proportions mix ie some red, brown, green dyes) and should I rent the spray gun for the lacquer or do the folks with experience thing the ReRanch or Stew Mac canned lacquers are good?

Also what technique or methods have the finishers used to scrape the bindings after a color coat?

Thanks in advance

Robert
