help! logo and binding ambering

searched over here but just can't find a solution...
i want to yellow/amber my custom binding and logo coz they are too white
i like some works i saw from nicolasrivera, but i think the ageing process of the laquer over binding and logo are a secret as they are not explained unlike many other things.

anyone can help me?
is there a dye to use? stain that penetrates the lacquer?

Re: help! logo and binding ambering

As far as I know, you gotta do it befor finishing a guitar. The first clear coat is a amber stained, that will turn the cream binding more into a yellow. Same for the headstock! Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken! There is a way to do it on a guitar later because I ones saw it on the forum a wile back, but the result is not the best and it's ot easy ...

Re: help! logo and binding ambering

If it were me, I would spray a thin amber toner over the guitar and then a couple coats of over thinned coats of clear over that. That way you don't wear through the amber coat and over thinned to cut down on the orange peel, also to melt everthing together.

Just my opinion though.

Wonder if Frenches Mustard would yellow the clear coat on top of the Binding. Seems like it stains everything it get on. This way you wouldn't have to re-spray the guitar and it's non toxic.

Re: help! logo and binding ambering

You might want to give the shoe polish a try. If I remember right thats what was used to age that guitar. Nitro tends to soak in whatever is on it if it is left there too long. I would experiment with a spot, the treble side of the neck binding for instance, you won't need much and it is an on off type of deal. Don't leave it on too long or you will discolor the binding too much. This might not be the result you are after though. If you are looking for a slight yellowing of the finish than you might need to take monsterwalley's advice and shoot super thinned coats of tinted then clear finish.
