Satin Finish Checking?
Just a quick question.
Will the satin finishes, such as on the Gibson SG Special Faded check? I assume it's still finished in 'nitro' but will having it in satin stop the instrument from checking? ...Not taking into account Gibson changing the nitro formula and increased presence of plasticizers. This is just in general

Re: Satin Finish Checking?
I've owned two SG fadeds and have a satin LP and I don't think there is any way they would check. The finish is very thin. One of my SGs did flake a bit on the back near the control cavity. The nitro would come off in small, pencil eraser sized or smaller, flakes leaving the stained wood. It was more of a crust than a thick finish though.
