Home Made Knob Remover

Hey Guys,

I am about to tear into my guitar and replace all the electronics, in preparation i have been doing alot of research into knob removal, well after seeing what is available, and the ridiculous prices they wanted , i decided to build my own.

What you see below, is 3 dollars in parts i figure , most of it i had due to my contracting business, and 15 minutes of my time..

All of the required items can be had from the local Home Depot.

I am also quite sure this tool could be used to remove the bushings in our guitars..

Eric

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

I wrap a cloth aound the underside of the knob, pull it up and twist so the knob is tightly wrapped, then pull gently.

That way you pull evenly all aound the knob.

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

Sure those methods will work, but a more control method that is employed with the use of the tool i made, will be much more forgiving on your knobs and pots,,

With the turning of the Wingnut, removal is more precise and controlled, and the knob rises in a completely level manner, no see-sawing of the knob,,

BTW, the tools used to build the tool, was a pair of Pliers, Flat Head Screwdriver and a Dremel tool,,

My guitar is worth a 3 dollar investment,,

But do what works for you..

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

Thats really cool but all you need to remove nobs is a platic bag....

Tuck the handles of a platic groc. store bag under the knobs, and pul up. No risk of scratching anything.

But if for some reason something is wrong and you need some addition force, I bet there is no knob that device won't remove!

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

Excellent idea and a fine invention!!

I recently had to do this with a G&L Legacy (granted it's ALL pickguard), but I used 2 Fender Medium picks from opposing directions. Slide the leading edge under the knob, grab the picks as close to the knob as possible, and pry upward.

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

I think you did a great job man. That would be a nice tool for a luthier or tech just because it eliminates any chance of hurting the finish or bending a post. You need to patent it.

That's cool. It's a lot cheaper then the stewmac version. Very clever.

Yeah me too, works like a charm. I've tried other ways, but it always seem to cause cracks in the knobs.

Very nice device though inxs996!

Re: Home Made Knob Remover

Looks good! i've been using a new shoelace, the wide flat kind you get in trainers/sneakers. wrap it around underneath once and tease opposite sides side up gently at a time. this should do untill that fine gadget hits the shops and we can save a few on new knobs!
