Knee rest strip on Flying V '58
Does anybody know where I can get the knee rest rubber strip to a Flying V '58?
![]() ![]() It's for a build I made a while ago but I never managed to find any so I thought I should give it a try here. Here's the one that's lacking the rubber strip.

Re: Knee rest strip on Flying V '58
It has the thickest neck I've ever played on. I usually like slim necks but this one is amazing. I did some mistakes because I used a Gibson 1982 V58 plan and the shapes are not the same as the original if you compare the sides of the body close to the neck.
Here is one more ![]() And the real thing....

![]() Meta, that thing looks great. I was used to small necks myself, but love my '04 R8. Do you suppose yours is even thicker than that?

Re: Knee rest strip on Flying V '58
I don't have a caliper, but carefully eyeballing a tape measure I'd say my R8 is a tenth or so thicker than that, with a little less taper between 1st and 12th. Feel-wise, probably almost identical. Playing an open E7, feels like you're ready to throw a pitch. I love it.

Re: Knee rest strip on Flying V '58
did you use the guitarbuildingtemplates templates? I believe those are based on the Epi 58 reissue based on the heel...I have that guitar myself BTW...the only Epi I like.

Home depot sales a strip like that it is non slip for walkways and I have seen it for wooden floors.

Re: Knee rest strip on Flying V '58
great build man ! looks great ! beautiful korina. peach i've sent u a pm about the strip !
that neck looks huge ! on what plans did u base the build on ? I'm still trying to finish a 3d/cnc model of a flying 58 but things are busy at work .. i'll finish it before 2010 but i still need to talk to someone with a real one and have him compare some measurements, which is the hardest part..

Indeed it's hard to find usefull info. I used a compilation of several plans and half way thru the build i used the pics from the #8 2850. As I didn't have the actual neck pocket info at the time, I started out with a LP pocket and then shaped the back to make it to look like the the V58. |
