Nut Material.

whats better.... the stock Gibson nut (i think its corian or something like it) or a bone one?
what are the pro's and con's of a bone nut on a les paul... tone, strength etc...
would you rather have Gibson use bone as stock...(even though its not historically accurate) or what they use now.

Re: Nut Material.

I prefer bone, others don't.

Gibson nuts are fine, if you want bone, it's pretty cheap to get one installed.

Re: Nut Material.

I'd rather NOT have a bone one if I had to cut it - the smell makes me hurl.

Re: Nut Material.

hmmm, I don't think I like the nut on my LP
I'll carve a bone one if a brass one is expensive.

I don't know much about all this stuff, any pointers ? the stock one on my studio isn't 'happening' for me

Re: Nut Material.

Unless I have a real problem with the factory nut, one that I cannot fix with a set of nut files, I leave it.

A bone nut is superior. Better tone, and if you use a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil, it stays lubricated.

Re: Nut Material.

I had a graphite nut installed in my '88. Seems to work pretty well.

But then, that's just me.
