My Historic Makeover Goldtop Is Back!!!!

I finally got my guitar back!! I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

I started a thread about a month and a half ago asking if any one else who'd had a make over had taken over a year because I was getting concerned with how long it was taking. Now that my guitar is back and looks so good I don't care how long it took It was worth every minute!

The guys at Historic Makeovers are great. Kim is the best, and Dave Johnson is a genius. I wanted a guitar that looked like the real deal. Goldtops are the coolest when they've been beat to shit, and he nailed the look I was going for.

Along with the package 'A' makeover I have also upgraded pretty much all of the parts on the guitar with more accurate reproduction stuff:

*Sheptone Blue Sky PAFs with DMCII covers
*Vintage Clone/Montreux pickup rings, pick guard, ABR-1, steel tailpiece studs, top hat knobs, poker chip/knurled nut, jack plate,
*Kluson SLSR tuners with Uncle Lou's tips
*CTS audio taper pots with Luxe bumbleebees
*RetroSpec ABR-1 thumbwheels and posts

I got carried away with my camera. I took way too many pics, but I don't think you guys'll mind if I post them will ya?

Re: My Historic Makeover Goldtop Is Back!!!!

It takes a year because, I hear, Dave whores the guitars out to local bands and let's them beat the crap out of them nearly every night for a year.

Just kidding, that does look awesome though!

How does DJ do the back like that? It looks like he raped it with a logging chain or something... looks good though.

Re: My Historic Makeover Goldtop Is Back!!!!

Thanks for all the nice comments!

I wish that you guys could see this guitar in person. I tried to capture just how good it looks, but the pictures only do it half justice. The color of the top is much better in person. It looks kind of washed out in my pics, but in life it has a really deep amber/greenish thing going on. I'll put a few shots of the neck up the first chance I get.

It looks just amazing.

But i really hope that they take that much time duo to too much guitars to work on and not just one guitar.

Outrageous!!!!!!! I love it.

nicolasrivera, I think that the most time consuming thing with this kind of job is to let the nitro cure for the the aging/weather checking part. My Tom Bartlett aged '98 R8 has cured for about 3-4 months but it's evidently to early for any checking. I'll put it in the freezer again sometime around Christmas.

Re: My Historic Makeover Goldtop Is Back!!!!

Well that's just stupidly good & very, very realistic - DJ is clearly 'the man' when it comes to GT's.

Congratulations, I'm seriously jealous!

Outstanding.

I would give anything to know how they did the back wear on that one.
Anyone have any idea? It's more than just beating it.
