I checked the soldering and it looks fine, he also used the 50's wiring and insulation. I talked to the store manager about reimbursement for the rs pot and shipping, he started writing a ticket for a $20 coupon, but then I said I would take some new darker knobs instead. At the end he gave me the knobs, 2 packs of vintage reissue strings, a planet waves string winder/cutter- value of about $45. So I'm pretty happy about that .
Now the bad news. I tried putting the new knobs on, but they don't drop down very much as compared to the old top hats-the actual channel the pot shaft fits into is diff, so I put the old knobs on. In the process however, i infact broke the shaft of the new rs pot, It broke as i tried opening it a little after squeezing it with a flat head. so I had to use some superglue and tape and now the knob fits on fine. I can't believe I broke it, it really is difficult to get it inbetween fully open or closed without breaking. Anyway, i also managed to jab my finish with a flat head , but it didn't go past the nitro, and the area is covered by the knob anyway. Oh well, what a day. I dunno how to feel except a little dumb.

I'm currently getting my MS in clinical psych. Not helping too much in healing the emotional pain...but things could always be worse, atleast I did the damage this time. Would a nick under the knob bring down resale value? Who knows. Time to go crazy

It's under the knob and probably can be fixed.
Don't worry about it if you can't see it.
Guess we should have told you to be careful with
opening the shafts with a screw driver .

I know this is after the horse is out, but you could have used some masking tape as many manufactures do if the shafts are too small.

Re: got my caps and pots back from the tech

yea i might get some masking tape, i just used regular scotch tape, and put enough so that the knob squezes the rivits on the shaft. It's difficult to tell the difference between that knob and the others. I'll take a pic of the hit to post later on.

That is messed up, dude. I work on guitars, and if I'd broken a pot tip like that, I'd have replaced it and ate the cost. That kinda shit is unacceptable. Period.

Seems like you should be doing business else where in the future.
