need help with wiring diagram

With all my coursework and exams latley i haven't had time to do my guitar wiring but i had time today and pulled out the schematic i had, and now i'm confused

look at the capacitor that is soldered to the vol and tone pots. It is soldered to one of the lugs of the volume pot, but then i think it shows that lug being soldered to the shell ?! Also, you see the connection between the tone and volume pot just below the cap, it shows the lug of the volume with the connection havin another wire soldered to it (that leads to the 3 way); what is this ?! sorry for being so noobish x)
please if anybody can explain to me what those solder connection are i'd be really grateful

That's the ground for that cap, and since that lug has to be grounded also, it is just as easy to bend the lug over, and solder both the leg of the cap and the lug at one time to the back of the pot. It makes for a more solid solder joint.

There are guys here who will eventually get around to answering your questions. Go ahead and post it, and someone will answer sooner or later. I do not actually know much about wiring; I just knew about the lug being soldered to the pot.

Your pickups have a ground and a hot. The shell of the pots are ground. You can solder your ground side of the pickups to these. Then run the hot sides(from both pick ups) back up to the 3 way switch I like to do this with thin wire. The wire running from the 3 way to the volume pot is your hot wire coming from the pickups, depending on where the switch is set it will send back both or just one (selected) pickup signal(s).
