Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

I've noticed and few times on this thread that some people talk about parts of the guitar using a certain "slang" and other members just sit there thinking "wahhh?"

So i've come up with the perfect solution, I am now bringing to you the "UNOFFICIAL MLP slang dictionary".

Hope this helps some people out there

Depending on the context, sometimes 'burst can mean an original vintage burst. Which is still a burst finish, but nevertheless it should be noted that there are differences.

Re: Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

Burst (noun): Term given to a Les Paul Standard made between 1958 and 1960, the "Golden Years" of the Les Paul.

Burst (verb): explode, as in "If I don't pee soon my bladder is going to burst!"

Sunburst (noun): Term given to a Les Paul finish type, normally accomplished by painting the guitar a lighter shade first, then darker shades around the outside edges of the body. The type of sunburst finish is dictated by the shade of the darker finish, e.g., Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Sunburst, Iced Teaburst, Clown burst, etc.

Course, then there's the Anti-cork sniffer. One who believes that their entry level Epiphone/Squier is the end all be all of guitars. Generally goes into the Gibson forum to crap on the Cork-sniffers.

I read that term "cork sniffer" here and just about died laughing, I love Gibson and was a cork sniffer myself for many years.

Re: Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

VOS - (Vintage Original Spec) - confusing because it specifically refers to the duller finishes (VOS finish) and patina on hardware on most Historics. Gibson calls these guitars the VOS series - even though they DO make a high gloss version with shiny hardware, which we usually call a "Gloss."

You're probably asking because of the "Bought a POS" thread. The thread was about a Norlin era Les Paul - and the ever brilliant Corey recently announced that Norlin era Gibsons "suck" - he was talking out of his ass - that thread was poking fun of HIM (because Norlins ROCK).

top wrap- feeding the strings through the front of tailpiece, bending them back over the top. In theory it makes them feel slinkier, easier to bend.

MOD-Modifying the guitar to make it look/sound better. Upgrading an instrument.
Example:
Quote:
lpjunkie: look under social groups, there already is one I created months ago for mods to Epi's and other Les Pauls.
(Sorry lpjunkie but I had to use your line as an ex. Oh look another one to add. Ex.-Example)
