MOP= Mother of Pearl
PokerChip= the plastic ring around the toggle switch of a Les Paul
ABR= Adjustable Bridge
Veneer= A thin slice of top over a not so good top to make it look nicer than it really is. Also known as PhotoTops by the hardcore.

Re: Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

I only glossed over the previous entries, so apologies if some have been mentioned before... I'm sure there's loads more I can't think of right now:

FYI - For your information

Reflectors - The knobs Gibson used from mid/late 1960-1968-ish

STP - Stop Tailpiece

ICFBI - I can't f**king believe it

WAW - What a w**ker

NALOPKT - Not a lot of people know that

Geet, Axe, Plank - Slang for guitar

OTP - Over The Pond. Add 'G' for OTPG = Over the Pond 'Guy' (just sounds so queer)

My bad - My mistake

STB - Sunrise Tea Burst (plus loads of other acromyms for sunburst colours)

OD - Overdrive

Black Beauty - The Les Paul Custom made between 1954-1957 with Alnico and P90 Pickups. Term is commonly misused when describing a three pickup Custom from late 1957 to early 1961. See also NALOPKT.

PAF - Patent Applied For (ususally pertaining to Humbucking pickups from 1957-1962)

Pat. No. - Patent Number (ususally pertaining to Humbucking pickups from 1962-197?)

PG - Pearly Gates

Bloomy - Bloomfield

LPF - The Dark Side. esp the Vintage area!

SICBWIJD - Shit, I can't believe what I just done. (Usually relating to having just bought an expensive guitar, or something guitar related).

11 - "Well, it's 1 louder, isn't it...?"

GSM - Gimme Some Money

BOTB - Beauty of the Burst

Cali-Girl Case - The 'curvy' Les Paul Lifton case which differs from the usual Lifton case shape. Brown on the outside, pink on the inside

The dusty bits - The area on the fretboard above the 15th fret.

That'll do for now.

I'm sorry but from what I've seen/heard this is not correct. Quilt/Flame/Plain are not finishes, they are the wood character under the finish. Sunburst, Lemondrop, Goldtop, Alpine White etc. now those are colors under finishes also. Nitrocellulose lacquer is a finish, basically the topcoat, the last thing applied to the guitar-hence the name FINISH (it's done after that!)

Cork sniffer
A derogatory term used to describe a person that tends to overanalyze physical properties that may not even be relevant.

These people seem to split hairs on details and are usually just percieved as windbags who just like to hear themselves speak.
