doppelganger - replica
reflectors - kind of knobs with reflective metal on top
swiss cheese - holes made to relieve the weight of a les paul
pancake - multiple layers of wood often found on norlin era gibson
condom (truss rod) - insulating cap found in new truss rods made to prevent resonations but disliked by every vintage lover
niks and dings - small chips in guitar finish

Re: Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

In film production lingo, a "stinger" is an industrial strength power extension cord. Not sure if it means something different here.

Here's one:

Plek'ing: Sending your guitar out to be analyzed and adjusted by a PLEK machine, an automated laser-scanning, fret-shaving-and-polishing, neck adjusting device designed in Germany.

A "stinger" is a guitar that has the back of its headstock painted black, ending in a pointed "sting" towards the neck. AFAIK, this is mostly to hide imperfections in the wood.

OFR- Original Floyd Rose tremolo, cost more, made better.... is the idea?
LFR- Licensed Floyd Rose tremolo, made by aftermarket or guitar mfg, Jackson, LTD. ect. Cost less.

Sure they rarley show up on LP's but this is a guitar forum.

Re: Unofficial MLP slang Dictionary

Axe.. that actually took me a while to figure out it was the slang word for a guitar.
I know I am not only one as someone else asked me that question a while ago.

CS.. Custom Shop?

It took me a while to find this thread, and when I did find it, I couldn't remember where I saw it.

I think it would be a good idea to have this thread somewhere else, or maybe in FAQ or in the Introduction thread?

Those that don't visit the Custom Shop thread that often would not read this.

Thank you for the info..there were some slang words/abbrev... I didn't understand until now.

Nope, it's just a cosmetic finishing touch. The wood under the black paint is fine.
