Les Paul Standard Mod Kits?

I've got 2 LP's. An ebony 04', and a faded 05'.

I'd like to upgrade the wiring kits in both.

Who would you recommend for the best pre-wired mod kit? And why?

Gear: Peavey 5150 combo w/75w Celestion, and jj tubes.
Boss Gt-10 multi-effect (4 cable method)
Line 6 wireless

Style: Melodic Hard Rock: Anything from a George Lynch to Slash to Zakk Wlyde style tones. But, I also like to have a crystal clean - clean sound. (JC 120-ish)

Thanks...

Re: Les Paul Standard Mod Kits?

I really like the RS pre-wired mods. I know that I need a long shaft, but I'm not sure which mod to get for the Lynch/Slash/Wylde tone that I'm going for. Any suggestions?

Also, has anyone had any experience with this mod:

Rothstein Guitars:
Les Paul (Standard, Custom, Deluxe) - WKGB111
3-way, 2 volume, 2 tone (long shaft pots / straight switch)

This pro kit includes the following components:

(4) 500K CTS long, split shaft pots
(1) Straight 3 way switch (Switchcraft)
(1) Switchcraft output jack
(2) .022 uf capacitor - select between
SBE Orange Drop 715P series (no extra charge)
Alessandro High End vintage repro wax & paper capacitors
Vitamin Q Paper & Oil
V-Cap Teflon Film & Foil
(2) Premium Volume Kit (1000 pf Mallory 150 series cap w/150K resistor)
Vintage style cloth wire
Includes wiring diagram

This kit is $67.99, but it's not pre-wired. Nothing a soldering iron can't fix, but I'd still prefer the convenience of the pre-wired kit.

Okay, after a lot of research... I'm leaning towards the RS vintage kits with bumblebees.

Any thoughts?

Unless you must have the vintage look, go with their Jensen PIO house brand caps.

I really appreciate the advice. Is there any particular reason that you recommend the Jensen caps over the bumblebees?

Thanks

Re: Les Paul Standard Mod Kits?

I would say check what the components do, which ones you need and do it yourself. Theres only a small learning curve to understand the basics and it'll teach you a lot and be much more rewarding.

Basically appart from the capacitors, only fluxtuations in components from manufacturing (such as 250k pots being 230k instead) really make any audible tone difference. Unless you've a keen ear and an army of tested pots and capacitors you can't 100% rely on pre-wired kits.

Besides, a lot of the tone your after is quite often the amp and touches of effects.
