?Headstock/fretboard binding & refacing
I may get a project guitar that will desire binding on the headstock that doesn't come from the factory with any on it.
1)Will the headstock need the edges routed to accomodate triple ply binding? 2)Same with the fretboard which will have ebony replacing the rosewood, and be bound. 3)Will the headstock surface need to be taken down and refaced? 4)If refaced, can the logo inlay be saved, easier to leave off, or replace? Thanx |

Re: ?Headstock/fretboard binding & refacing
The headstock will need to be routed along with the new board. From videos I've seen, it looks like its a fiddly task.
If the logo is an inlay then it should be fine to sand off the finish and then refinish it, however if its a decal then that will probably need a new one. I think there are ways to save it, but I couldn't tell you, other than to avoid it. If your talking about "refacing" as in to put a new veneer on the top then if it is a thin inlay you'll be in for a proper surgical proceedure to save it. |

Thanx, Nay, the worst of that dovetails with my thots and fears. I'm avoiding the idea and will go with better prospects.
