A '59 LP Kit Review...

This has become one of those odd situations... This is a Kit that apparently is not on the market quite yet...

I suspect shenanigans...

But then, I suspect that fluoride in the drinking water is a government conspiracy as well.

As it is: '59 Les Paul Guitar Kit Review

That does sound like a messed up situation,, I admire your discretion concerning the whole ordeal. That looks like a nice kit but $700 worth ? If you decided you wanted to do up another 59 Kit for yourself,,would you pay the $700 for it ?

If I was in the market for a kit and had the $... Yeah I think I would.

Damn nice kit though... So what the hell... I write crazy shit anyway.

The explanation for the weirdness has come through:

Comment from the supplier : '59 Les Paul Guitar Kit Review

Unfortunate because this kit is really nice.

Re: A '59 LP Kit Review...

I'll be selling a real replica kit, an enhanced bfcg and it may be priced more than $700.The semi-done neck and excellent body cost me $681. To get close to this, you have to spend full value for a Bartlett-that is, Tom's is worth $1800 as complete as it is. Again, the Precision comes through as a great "everymans'" LP style kit;not replica, but excellent. It does sound like BYO has upped the ante on theirs- for better quality.

Might be a little while... At first there was the big rush on because I agreed to write it up within a certain amount of time but now they have cut me loose.

I think perhaps before summer though... I have all the stuff for it so it's just a mater of finding the time.

Oh boy I was hoping there'd be a decent quality LP kit in that price range...

...guess it will be the BYO custom shop for my birthday, eh.

Re: A '59 LP Kit Review...

Don't anybody hold their breath but...

This kit may be on the market by the end of this year.

'59 Les Paul Guitar Kit Review

The guy contacted me saying he found a source of legal raw materials and he would be receiving samples soon and if all went well he was going to buy it all up.

He says the target price will be $550 and they will be made here in the USA.

Hm, I'm not good in craftsmanship but always wanted to give it a try for fun. Maybe this is a chance for the next winter .

Re: A '59 LP Kit Review...

Daniel, that is great news! Hmmm, any idea if he'd accept maple from a potential customer for their guitar and discount accordingly for not having to supply the maple out of his stock? I have a very nicely figured piece of maple that I've been saving to use if I ever get the time and nerve to build my own LP.

I have no idea I will ask the dude about custom orders etc if and when he gets back to me again.

If you take a look at how the whole review came about, and also consider the fact that the original email address I was in contact with him evaporated shortly after...The Guy seems pretty sketchy all around.

But I suppose we'll see.

Yeah it's worth it, considering that the bulldog solid top is about $500 to your door and this kit is of better quality and just about an exact replica as best I can determine from plans and an example (real 1960) I've compared it to myself.

It's all going to come down to the wood though and I just don't know.

If the guy does get a source there is no guarantee that the materiel will be the same quality of what I have in my hands.

If he does go into production I'd have to see one to truly recommend them... That and the guy needs to quit being so weird about it all as well (I'm thinking he's cool but has some pressing shit going on but IDK for sure).

Daniel the way you describe the kit: "it caused a stir on a guitar forum"... is this a George M kit?
