Pickup routing

What are the differences in the location of pickups in an SG and an LP. I'm thinking about routing my SG to have the pup locations of an LP (or at least really close) since I'm making a new full face pickguard for her.

Do you mean the neck pickup? I think on an LP it's a bit closer to the neck but I don't know if it's a good idea to move it, the neck joint of SG is already quite weak comparing to an LP...

Re: Pickup routing

Some of the 70's SGs had the neck pup right on the neck. That was what my other question was going to be, how close can I get to the joint without worry of it breaking?

Sorry man can't help you there. you might wanna scout the internet with pictures of the 70's SG's to study them.

Re: Pickup routing

I'd look at it in terms of coil placement relative to the harmonic nodes.

I think on a les paul the coil of the neck humbucker closest to the fingerboard is directly under the harmonic node. Not 100% but I think so.
