My Custom Tele - Paint?

So I've got this tele...

And it's nothing special, pretty cheap, made by S101 but I like it quite a bit. I find the color and everything quite boring though, and am looking to overhaul it so to say.

I'd like to paint it, but first of all, what kind of paint can I use to paint over it (spray paint I'm guessing, but will it work, and are there any negative effects associated with it on a guitar?), and second of all, there are quite a few scratches and knicks in the finish, can I just paint right over these? I used it a lot this summer outdoors and it looks faily worn now (the picture is old) so the finish has little gouges that show right through to the wood.

Should I repaint it, any color suggestions, or any ideas for mods if I keep it white? I guess I'm just a little tired of the white on white tele.

Thanks guys

put on many layers of this http://www.justscrappinessentials.com.au/Punchies/paint splats.jpg, but slightly more realistic, and more dramtic to get that psychadelic feel.

Re: My Custom Tele - Paint?

I decided to keep it white, but ordered a Wilkinson bridge and new control plate and pickguard. It should look pretty good I'm hoping, and it's a bit beat up from being hauled around everywhere, so it'll look somewhat vintage I'm guessing
